"Goodwood Festival of Speed is always one of the highlights of the year for us"

McLaren Racing today announced that reigning Formula 1 World Champion, Lando Norris, will be returning to the iconic Goodwood Estate as part of its line-up for the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking place between 9 and 12 July.
With the team set to run four of its iconic cars across the weekend, Lando will be returning to the MCL60 on Saturday 11 July, where he will make a spectacular drive up the hill to the front of Goodwood House allowing fans to join the papaya team in celebration of Britain’s newest Formula 1 World Champion, only the 11th in the history of the sport.
Named as part of McLaren Racing’s 60th anniversary, the MCL60 competed in the 2023 FIA Formula 1 Championship. McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team Reserve Driver, Leonardo Fornaroli, will drive the MCL60 throughout the weekend outside of Lando’s driving duties on Saturday.
McLaren will also be celebrating their incredible heritage across all four days with the running of the 1993 MP4/8, 1993 MP4/8B and 1976 M23.
33 years on from competing in a Formula 1 race, Ayrton Senna’s final F1 race winner in Australia, the MP4/8, will be running up the hill with Leonardo Fornaroli, Bruno Senna and Rob Garofall sharing the wheel across the event.
For the first time since 1993, the team will bring the MP4/8B, the final McLaren car ever driven by Ayrton Senna, which was used to test a Chrysler-Lamborghini V12 engine as a potential 1994 development. Goodwood Festival of Speed will be the first time the MP4/8B has been seen in public since September 1993.
This year will be 50 years since James Hunt’s World Championship win in 1976. The team will be exhibiting the M23 on this historic anniversary. This is the chassis Hunt drove as he won the World Championship, and fans can see the car in action across all four days.
“Goodwood Festival of Speed offers motorsport fans the opportunity to get up close to incredible cars and on-track action, and we’re excited to be part of it again. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our rich heritage by bringing some of Formula 1’s most iconic cars as well as celebrating current achievements.
“This year we’re celebrating 50 years since James Hunt won the World Championship, so we had to bring the winning chassis, M23. The MP4/8 race-winning car will also drive up the hill. This is the same car Ayrton Senna drove when he won the 1993 Australian Grand Prix. I’m particularly excited to bring the MP4/8B for public viewing for the first time since Ayrton and Mika Häkkinen drove it at a test in Estoril in 1993, a real treat for all motorsport fans.
“We’ll also be celebrating last year’s double Championship win on Saturday, when Lando drives the MCL60 to Goodwood House, a fantastic opportunity to look back at this very special moment for the team.
“Goodwood Festival of Speed is always one of the highlights of the year for us. We look forward to seeing our Papaya family on the ground.”
