"I always enjoy driving in Monza, it’s such a fast track, and the conditions were good"

Leonardo Fornaroli and Will Stevens shared driving duties in the MCL60 in Monza as part of their roles with the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team.
Fresh off his positive first FP1 outing with the team in Barcelona, Leo got back in our 2023 challenger today with the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) team at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, completing the morning session. McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team Test & Development driver, Will Stevens, drove the car in the afternoon. Leo completed 36 laps (207 km), and Will completed 28 laps (161 km) around the Temple of Speed.
The objective for this test was for Leo to secure more seat time and advance his development programme with specific goals in mind. Within the short window of today’s test, Leo worked on a number of low-fuel runs and short stints. The Italian driver made further positive steps forward, completing all of the aims the team set out for him.
Will Stevens also got behind the wheel of the MCL60, in his first TPC test of 2026. Will’s objective for the test is to provide him with a reference point for his work in the simulator. Jake Hughes completed his TPC test in Barcelona earlier this year.
For Leo, this was his fourth F1 test, in line with the testing programme that was set out for him as part of his ongoing training in the McLaren Driver Development Programme.
Leo’s next outing in an F1 car will see him take part in a TPC with the TGR Haas F1 Team tomorrow at the Circuit de Jerez. This represents a strong opportunity for the 2025 Formula 2 Champion to develop his skills in another Formula 1 car, and accordingly, the team is more than happy to support his participation in the test.
“I’m always looking forward to the opportunity to drive an F1 car. I’m really pleased with the performance in Barcelona during the FP1 session, which these tests helped me prepare for. I always enjoy driving in Monza, it’s such a fast track, and the conditions were good.”
"I want to thank the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team and everyone in the McLaren Driver Development Programme for their continued support and for always providing me with development opportunities. I’m grateful for McLaren for allowing me to take part in the test tomorrow with Haas. I’m looking forward to continuing building on my progress.”
“It’s great to be back behind the wheel with the TPC Team. A modern F1 car is around Monza is fun, and most importantly, provides an important reference for my simulator work. We did a mix of short and long runs today, and we’ll get some more miles in tomorrow.”
