Welcome to McLaren Racing’s sustainability hub.

Sustainability isn’t a marketing term or trending hallmark. For us at McLaren Racing, it is an approach that needs to underpin how we operate, how we race and how we influence our industry and fans. It’s about contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, signing up to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework and Race to Zero targets, and aligning with the Science Based Targets initiative.

Sustainability at McLaren Racing requires us to work towards concrete goals that feed into the four pillars of our sustainability strategy: Net Zero, Circular Economy, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Health and Wellbeing.

Achieving economic, environmental and social sustainability requires everyone to recognise the role they have to play, whether through small shifts in daily habits or by lobbying policymakers to accelerate widespread transformation.

We’re committed to building a sustainable future for our sport.

Sustainability

Pillars

  • We know that the journey towards net-zero is a complex one. It requires both incremental gains and transformative step changes in the way that we, and the industries around us, operate. We’re honest with ourselves about the scale of the challenge, and it hasn’t deterred us from being ambitious and holding ourselves to the highest standards.

    Our goals and targets:
    • Halve our GHG emissions and switch to 100% renewable electricity by 2030
    • Reach net-zero GHG emissions by 2040
    • Balance our residual emissions using high-quality carbon removals
    • Invest in the Climate Contribution Programme to reduce and remove emissions beyond our value chain

  • Working towards a circular economy means minimising the resources we consume, designing waste out of our processes, and maximising the value of the products and materials we use. We do this by identifying high-potential circular products and processes, using more sustainable materials, keeping those materials in circulation for longer, and treating them correctly after we’ve used them.

    Our goals and targets:
    • Design and build a circular F1 car
    • Reduce our consumption, maximise the value of our resources, and design waste out of our processes

  • Our target is for 40% of the team to come from underrepresented groups by 2030. For us, this includes women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, neurodivergence, the LGBTQ+ community and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds. In the US we also include military veterans.

    Our goals and targets:
    • 40% of our team to come from underrepresented groups by 2030
    • 10% of our people to be STEM ambassadors

  • Health and wellbeing is highly personal to each individual. We take a targeted approach, informed by feedback, to support our teams’ health and wellbeing.

    Our goals and targets:
    • 10% of our people to be mental health first aiders (MHFAs)
    • Deliver sustainable high performance through an inclusive health and wellbeing strategy

The Great Barrier Reef Foundation
Partnership with McLAREN Racing

As part of our Climate Contribution Programme, McLaren Racing has partnered with The Great Barrier Reef Foundation: an Australian non-profit focused on scaling solutions that restore and enhance the resilience of coral reefs and ocean habitats.

In early 2024, Oscar and other key members of the Sustainability Team met with The Great Barrier Reef Foundation to see the work they are doing first hand.

Find out more about McLaren Racing's Climate Contribution Programme here.
