2024 Autosport Awards winners revealed
Hear from the team after McLaren picked up three trophies at the annual ceremony
McLaren enjoyed a trophy-laden evening at the annual Autosport Awards, as the MCL38, Team Principal Andrea Stella, and Lando Norris each collected individual honours.
The MCL38 won International Car of the Year, Andrea was named as the Person of the Year, and Lando was crowned British Competition Driver of the Year.
McLaren were crowned Constructors’ Champions for the first time since 1998 at the end of 2024. The title was sealed with a victory, as Lando won a dramatic season finale in Abu Dhabi. It capped off a historic campaign for the team, in which we broke our points record, less than two years on from a 2022 season that had begun with 14th and 15th placed finishes in the opening race at Bahrain. It was also the first time we had won multiple races in a single season since 2012 and the first time both our drivers had won since 2012.
The MCL38 joins a historic list of McLarens to have picked up this award (previously named Racing Car of the Year), including 1988’s dominant MP4/4 and our second-most recent Constructors’ Championship-winner, 1998’s MP4/13.
Our 2024 challenger was the class of field, emerging as the quickest car on the grid on average from Miami onwards. The team’s improvements ahead of the 2024 season and the subsequently installed upgrade packages transformed it from a contender for podiums and victories under the right conditions to a regular race winner.

The building of the hugely successful MCL38 was a full factory effort and the trophy was collected on behalf of the entire team by Team Principal Andrea Stella, COO Piers Thynne and our Technical Leadership team, which consists of Rob Marshall, Mark Temple, Peter Prodromou, and Neil Houldey.
“When we started with this journey 24 months ago, we didn’t think this was the trajectory but the individuals we have here, they made it possible,” said Andrea, speaking at the Autosport Awards. “I am very pleased to be receiving this award with this group of engineers and people.
“I am just so lucky to be surrounded by some incredible people. It is 1,000 people making this car - actually 1,001, thanks to Zak Brown.”
Andrea enjoyed two trips onto the stage, winning the prestigious Person of the Year Award, having overseen our remarkable turnaround. Andrea first arrived at McLaren in 2015 as Head of Race Operations, having followed Fernando Alonso from Ferrari, where he had been his Race Engineer.

Andrea Stella
McLaren F1 Team Principal
Andrea went on to become Racing Director in 2019 before being promoted to Team Principal in December 2022. Alongside CEO Zak Brown, and with the support of our Senior Leadership team, Andrea has delivered progress on and off track, with a series of major infrastructure upgrades, a new Technical Team structure, and an overhauled car design, whilst finely-tuning the team’s culture.
"I am surprised and very thankful and grateful for this award," said Stella. "I am a lucky person. I am doing the job that I dreamt of as a kid and I do it with passion and try to do it better every day. I have been lucky to be surrounded by great people, and if I receive this award, it is because of the people around me at McLaren.
"So, a big, big thank you to the people around me, my mates, and on this journey with McLaren going to win the World Championship. Thank you to all, this award is for myself and all the people that have been with me for this incredible journey."
Lando was named as the British Competition Driver of the Year, beating off competition from Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Ollie Bearman. The award is voted for by fans and has previously gone to former McLaren drivers including Jenson Button, Hamilton, David Coulthard, Martin Brundle, and Nigel Mansell. Lando first won the award in 2019.

Lando clinched an emotional first F1 victory in the 2024 Miami Grand Prix during what has since become his most successful season to date. The 25-year-old also won the Dutch Grand Prix, the Singapore Grand Prix and the season finale, scoring 374 points to finish as runner-up to Max Verstappen.
“I am very proud and honoured because it is a fan vote to be picking up the Autosport British Competition Driver of the Year award,” said Lando via a pre-recorded message. “A lot of this is all down to the fans, my beautiful supporters, who are there supporting me and cheering me on every weekend.
“Last year was a great year – I know at the same time, you were a little bit disappointed, so I am making sure that this year is going to be better and stronger and that I don’t make the same mistakes as I did last time out. A big thanks to everyone who voted for me… congrats to all of the award winners!”
Our 2025 challenger will be unveiled at the O2 Arena on 18 February during F1 75, an all-team season launch. It will then take to the track for pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit on 26 - 28 February.
