Neil Houldey
Technical Director – Engineering
Neil was appointed as Technical Director – Engineering, in 2024 as part of Andrea Stella's F1 Technical Executive Team. He has worked within McLaren for more than 15 years, originally joining in 2006 as a Design Engineer.
Before university, Neil spent a year working for the Light Car Company building the ‘Rocket’, during which time he realised he wanted a career in motor racing. He then studied Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University, graduating in 2000.
He joined Lola Cars as a Design Engineer, quickly progressing to Project Leader. After joining McLaren in 2006 as a Design Engineer, he became a Team Leader for Front Suspension and Driver Controls in 2008.
His rise through the ranks continued, as he became Design Project Leader and then Deputy Head of Design, in which time he also chaired the “concept group”, responsible for defining the future car concepts.
Neil was made Director, Car Concept and Performance Development in 2022, where he was charged with collaboratively leading the car concept process. This saw him bring together the Aero, Design and Vehicle Performance teams in our drive to increase performance.
In March 2023, he joined Andrea Stella's F1 Technical Executive Team.
