Rob Marshall
Chief Designer
Rob Marshall joined McLaren Racing in January 2024 following a successful 17-year period with Red Bull Racing.
As part of Andrea Stella’s F1 Technical Executive team, Rob is supported by Neil Houldey, Technical Director, Engineering. Rob and Neil will play an instrumental role in designing McLaren’s Formula 1 cars.
Rob studied Mechanical Engineering at Cardiff University before joining the design department of Rolls-Royce following his graduation in 1989.
After nine years working in aerospace, Rob transitioned to Formula 1 joining Benetton Formula as a Design Engineer. As the team were taken over by Renault, Rob progressed to become Head of Mechanical Design, assisting the team with their first two Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships in 2005 and 2006.
In 2006, Rob left Renault to join Red Bull Racing as Chief Designer, before being promoted to Chief Engineering Officer in 2016. During his tenure with the team, Rob helped design numerous Championship winning F1 cars, including four titles with Sebastian Vettel, and three with Max Verstappen.
Rob’s incredible expertise will contribute to McLaren’s objective to out-develop competitors and close the gap at the front of the grid.
