FIVE THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR IN SINGAPORE

A spectacular setting awaits as we seek points on multiple fronts under the Singapore night sky

For articles

The bright nighttime lights await for the first time this season as we head to the stunning backdrop of Singapore’s Marina Bay.

F1’s original night race has been a firm favourite since joining the calendar in 2008, and there is far more to it than the beautiful backdrop. Tight corners, unforgiving walls, and intense heat and humidity leave little room for error, while this year the venue hosts its first-ever Sprint to add another opportunity for points.

Ahead of the action getting underway, here are five things to watch out for in Singapore…

Bouncing back

After two challenging weekends, we are hoping to put on a more competitive showing in Singapore. The last two weekends have given the team plenty to analyse, highlighting areas of opportunity and helping us to better understand how we can extract more from the MCL40.

The short turnaround between races has been used to comb through that data as we work to provide Lando and Oscar with a more competitive package in Singapore, and instead pick back up where we left off after Madrid - where only one incident deprived Lando of a victory that was well within his grasp.

Marina Bay’s slow, 90-degree corners present another challenge, but the competitive order has varied from circuit to circuit this season. Our focus will be on maximising performance in every area.

Bonus points

Singapore’s inaugural Sprint is the sixth and final such race of this season, giving Lando and Oscar another opportunity to add to our tally before Sunday’s Grand Prix. We have enjoyed some strong results in the shorter format this year, most notably in Miami, where Lando led Oscar home for our first 1-2 of the season.

Lando has scored points in all five Sprints so far, finishing fourth in China, winning in Miami, taking second in Canada and third at both Silverstone and Zandvoort. Oscar has also scored in every Sprint, with his best the aforementioned second in Miami.

It is a strong record we will look to continue as we aim to maximise the extra opportunity for points.

Into the night

For the first time this season, F1 will be racing under the lights, as Singapore kicks off a run of night races to close out the campaign.

Singapore has been synonymous with night racing since becoming F1’s first floodlit Grand Prix in 2008, but this year brings something new. It will be the first time the latest generation of F1 cars have raced at night, giving Lando, Oscar and the rest of the field another new challenge to conquer.

Lower track temperatures after sunset can influence tyre behaviour, adding another variable for teams to understand with this new car specification.

Meanwhile, Marina Bay’s floodlit streets provide a very different environment from anything we’ve experienced so far this season, and with the margins as fine as ever, adapting quickly will be important.

Singapore also begins the night-race stretch of the calendar, with further floodlit events to come in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.

Happy hunting ground

We’ve enjoyed some happy times in Singapore since it joined the calendar in 2008.

Lewis Hamilton claimed our first victory at Marina Bay in 2009, before Lando returned us to the top step in 2024 with a dominant victory from Pole. The reigning World Champion has enjoyed an impressive run in Singapore, also finishing second in 2023 and third in 2025, while Oscar joined him on the podium in 2024.

Last season provided another special Singapore memory. Lando and Oscar finished third and fourth, respectively, gaining the points we needed to secure our second consecutive Constructors’ Championship and 10th overall.

Neither driver has finished outside the top seven at Marina Bay, making it one of our strongest venues in recent seasons.

Spectacular scenes

Few races on the calendar can rival Singapore for spectacle, with cars racing beneath thousands of floodlights against one of the world’s most recognisable skylines.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit weaves through the heart of the city, with the cars darting between concrete barriers and illuminated skyscrapers. Add in the heat and humidity, the glare of the floodlights, and the city lights reflecting across the waterfront, and Singapore delivers a sensory experience unlike almost anywhere else on the calendar.

There’s plenty for travelling fans to explore, too. Gardens by the Bay sits close to the circuit, while the SkyPark Observation Deck offers panoramic views across Marina Bay. Fans can also visit Merlion Park, explore Chinatown and Kampong Gelam, or sample Singapore’s famous hawker centres.
