Firing up our 2025 Formula 1 car

Listen to our 2025 challenger for the first time

The start of our title defence has edged closer after our new Formula 1 challenger was brought to life in front of Andrea Stella and the rest of the team at the McLaren Technology Centre.

The first fire up is a crucial milestone in the lead up to a new season, confirming that car build is on track following months of collaboration between all departments. It marks the first time that the power unit (PU) is switched on while fitted to the chassis, with checks then performed to ensure everything is working as expected and that there are no faults or leaks.

Our new car follows the hugely successful MCL38, as we look to retain the Constructors’ Championship and fight for the Drivers’ Championship this season. It will be officially unveiled at The O2 on 18 February during F1®75, an all-team season launch.

The world premiere event will take place at 20:00 GMT, with all 10 teams, 20 drivers and Team Principals taking to the stage.

“I am excited to share that we have successfully fired up our 2025 contender,” said Chief Operating Officer Piers Thynne. “Fire up is a key car build task supported by our partners from HPP, which we have successfully achieved ahead of plan.

“This is a significant moment for the wider team and our suppliers. Each and every person across all departments, including our supply chain, has played a part in this, which further forges our quality of teamwork and collaboration.

“It’s a proud moment for all in the team and the culmination of a lot of hard work after a very busy season last year. I’m proud to see the whole team pushing with the right mindset to take the next step.

“I would like to thank everyone for their efforts and rigour displayed to get us to this milestone. Fire up is confirmation that we’re now ready to complete a full build.

“We now must keep the traction with a total focus towards the final sign-offs ahead of on-track running.

“To close from me, as always, is a thank you to all of our loyal papaya fans. I hope they are as excited as we are to see our new car at F1®75 in London and pre-season testing.”

The 2025 Formula 1 season will begin at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, Australia, from 14 to 16 March.
