Your guide to the Singapore GP - presented by OKX

"From a performance point of view, we’ve been working hard on our development of the MCL60"

OKX

Stealth Mode: unlocked.

As we wave goodbye to the European season and embrace the final leg of the campaign, starting with the upcoming Asian double-header, we’ve adopted a new-look, sleek version of our livery on the MCL60 for Singapore’s spectacular night race.

Racing in our Stealth Mode livery and race suits, we’ll be going undercover at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, but we’ll need your help on this mission. We’ll be acting as your Agent Handler, and this is your official invitation. Joining us on this mission will be Lando, Oscar and Team Principal Andrea Stella, who will be briefing you on the details of the operation below.

If this is your first introduction to espionage, you’ve got a lot to learn, but don’t worry, we’ll get you up to speed quickly. To help assist you, we’ve provided a circuit guide, the key statistics, instructions on what to wear as your uniform and a handbook on the location itself.

"I'm really excited to be returning to Singapore. It's one of the most exciting tracks on the calendar, but also one of the more physically demanding. Our car looks really cool with a limited-edition Stealth Mode livery design, so I'm looking forward to getting out on track.

"Last week, I was back at the MTC with my engineers going over our performance and result in Monza. We keep moving forward and hope to keep consistently finishing in the points."

Oscar quote banner

"I've always enjoyed watching the Singapore GP, so I'm really looking forward to making my debut at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. I spent time in the sim last week learning as much as I can, but as a rookie, it’s a track that you really need to physically drive to gain the experience.

"Singapore offers some tricky conditions, especially with the high humidity. It's a new challenge for me, so that's something I've been preparing for as well. It can be a race of jeopardy, and anything can happen as we’ve seen before. The car has a slightly different livery for this double header, which I really like. Hopefully we come back with a nice result. I'm ready for the weekend!"

Night racing in the Garden City

Drivers can lose as much as 3kg in body weight over the course of Formula 1’s most physically demanding grand prix. Temperatures inside of the cockpit can reach a sweltering 60 degrees Celsius with up to 80% humidity. Couple that with one of the busier – and bumpier - laps of the calendar, and drivers are in for a rough ride.

Although, they may be relieved to hear that there are four fewer corners to navigate this year following a revised layout. Due to redevelopment work in the vicinity of the track, Turns 16 to 19 will become one long 397.9m straight. It’s expected that the now 4.928km-long circuit could be around 8.517s faster per-lap following simulators based on a 2020 F1 car.

Despite being a street circuit, overtaking is possible around the Marina Bay Street Circuit, with the best chance in the past coming at Turn 7 following a lengthy stint of foot-to-the-floor driving. Turn 14 has also seen moves made in the past, whilst, Turn 16 may now provide an opportunity thanks to the revised layout.

The Singapore Grand Prix is also notable for its unique timing schedule. With the race taking place at night, the team will effectively remain on European time, eating breakfast in the PM and dinner in the AM.

Last time out

Lando secured his sixth successive top 10 finish at the Italian Grand Prix, finishing eighth to increase his points tally to 79, eighth overall in the standings. It was a tougher afternoon for Oscar, who suffered damage during a collision with Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver was handed a time penalty for causing the offence, but Oscar was forced into the pits for a fresh nose. The Australian managed to make it back up to 11th, but narrowly missed out on what would have been a fourth points’ finish in five races. We remain fifth in the Constructor’s standings with 115 points.

Setting the scene

If you’re lucky enough to be in Singapore this weekend, then the OKX Race Club, at Chijmes, is the place to be. To bring fans closer to Stealth Mode, OKX will be hosting a McLaren-themed fan zone Thursday to Sunday featuring a Stealth Mode show car, racing simulators, giveaways and surprise guests. Free tickets are available here.

One of Singapore’s nicknames is the Garden City, as it is one of the greenest in the world. If this sounds like your type of place, then top of your life to visit should be the Gardens by the Bay, which features the world’s largest glass greenhouse, named the Flower Dome.

As well as being incredibly green, Singapore is also incredibly clean. Its combination of stunning high-rise buildings, beautiful gardens and vibrant art scene make it something of a photographer's playground. Whilst you’re there, don’t forget to try their famous Singapore Sling cocktail and chilli crab dish.

Andrea Stella

"We head to the vibrant city-state of Singapore looking forward to the first leg of this Asian double header. Singapore always offers up an exciting event, and at this special race, the MCL60 will have its colours reversed in an exclusive livery design with our partner OKX.

“We race in unique conditions at the Singapore Grand Prix, with high humidity and an offset schedule adding an additional challenge for our team and drivers. From a performance point of view, we’ve been working hard on our development of the MCL60, and look to continue this positive momentum as we head into the final third of the season.”

The fit: Stealth Mode

If you’re going to go undercover, then you’ll need a uniform. But seeing as this mission is based at a race track, you’d be easily spotted in traditional spy-wear. For that reason, we’re recommending, OKX’s Stealth Mode McLaren tee, it’s stylish, but subtle, making it ideal for sneaking around the Marina Bay Circuit.

Speaking of sneaking, you’ll need some sneakers, and K Swiss is the only way to go. With plenty of walking on the agenda, you’ll be wanting a pair from their McLaren range on your feet, ensuring you look the part whilst maintaining optimal levels of comfort.
