Following the two semi-finals, we can reveal your finalists. Vote now to decide McLaren’s greatest Formula 1 Grand Prix
Nine hundred and ninety-six Grands Prix have been whittled down to just two… The results are in, and your votes mean that Ayrton Senna’s 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix win will take on Lando’s 2025 British Grand Prix victory in the battle to be named McLaren’s greatest Formula 1 Grand Prix.
As part of our 1,000th Grand Prix celebrations, we’ve been asking the Papaya Family to vote for their favourite Grand Prix in McLaren history. We created an initial 20-strong shortlist for you to vote on, which we split into two semi-finals.
In the first semi-final, Ayrton’s 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix victory topped the poll with 25% of the vote. His 1993 European Grand Prix triumph followed with 19%, while his 1988 Japanese Grand Prix win secured 16%. McLaren’s first-ever Formula 1 victory, delivered by founder Bruce McLaren, finished fourth with 12%, while Alain Prost’s 1986 Australian Grand Prix victory rounded out the top five with 5%.
With voting now closed on the second semi-final, we can confirm that Lando’s home win at the 2025 British Grand Prix stormed to victory with 45% of the vote, ahead of Oscar’s 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix victory with 15%. Jenson Button’s Canadian Grand Prix triumph finished third with 12%, ahead of Daniel Ricciardo’s 2021 win and Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 British Grand Prix victory, which were tied on 6%.
McLaren Racing Club members can now select their favourite below. In a battle of the home wins, will you opt for Ayrton Senna’s 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix success or Lando’s 2025 British Grand Prix glory?
Victory on home soil eluded Ayrton for most of his career, but he righted this wrong in 1991 when he clinched an emotional Brazilian Grand Prix win, despite a gearbox failure. Restricted to only using sixth gear, Ayrton clung on to first place against all odds by 2.991 seconds. Such was his physical and emotional exhaustion that Ayrton struggled to lift the winner’s trophy on the podium.
Every driver wants to win their home Grand Prix, and at Silverstone in 2025, Lando Norris achieved this dream in front of his own ‘Landostand’. It marked a historic result for the team, ending a 17-year wait for victory at home with a dominant 1–2. In wet conditions early in the race, Lando picked off Max Verstappen before benefiting from a mid-race penalty for Piastri to take control of the race ahead of his team-mate.
