The best moments from the British Grand Prix
LEGO trophies, chrome cars, and a peak behind the curtain: A fly on the wall look at this weekend's action on and off-track
Welcome to our regular post-race round-up, a final look at the action, where we’ll break down the best and the bonkers of F1 from across the weekend. From our favourite photos to the slickest fits we spotted, plus all the behind-the-scenes goodness you might have missed.
This year’s round at Silverstone delivered an unforgettable British Grand Prix, a thrilling 52-lap wet-dry affair that will go down in history with the all-time greats, alongside iconic races such as those in 1967, 1987, 1991, and 2008, among many others.
At the flag, Lando finished a dominant 37 seconds ahead of the nearest non-McLaren driver, but the rain ensured it wasn't a simple 1-2 victory, as Lando and Oscar both delivered excellent performances.
While many of this weekend’s biggest talking points took place on the track, there was still a lot to love away from it, which you might have missed, including some rather distinctive trophies and unique behind-the-scenes insight from our social team. Here’s are some of our favourite moments.
Outfit of the weekend
There’s no place like chrome
The MCL39’s fit was pretty special, even if we do say so ourselves. Usually, we’d dedicate this section to a driver or fan, but the McLaren Formula 1 car stole the show in Great Britain, wearing a limited-edition livery enhancement, inspired by our chrome-coloured cars from 2006 to 2014.
The special livery, created in partnership with Official Primary Partner Google Chrome, was revealed at our McLaren Racing Live: London event, held in Trafalgar Square ahead of our home race.
It made it's debut in Free Practice 1 on a record-breaking weekend for Silverstone, with 500,000 fans attending across the event, including those pictured here in Lando's dedicated fan grandstand, Landostand.

Best of social media
POV: You’re admin at Lando’s arrival
Every race weekend, fans are delivered photos and videos to their social media timelines of the drivers entering the circuit looking fresh, but have you ever wondered what goes into capturing these? It’s more complicated than simply pointing and shooting a camera, with us needing to navigate various hurdles to get the perfect shot or the most engaging videos, whether that be poor weather or an unexpected interruption.
This weekend, we brought you along for the ride. Admin strapped a camera to their head as our team set off to greet Lando on Saturday morning.
Here’s how it went down.
Think you saw admin with a camera on their head? 👀

A surplus of silverware
The British Grand Prix winner's trophies weren’t the only awards Lando and the team picked up this weekend, as they were honoured with the Hawthorn Memorial Trophy and the Sir Malcolm Campbell Trophy, respectively.
For the first time in his career, Lando picked up the Hawthorn Memorial Trophy, named after Mike Hawthorn, Britain’s first Formula 1 World Champion, and awarded to the British or Commonwealth driver who finished highest in the standings the previous season.
Lando joins an illustrious list of former McLaren drivers to receive the award, including Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, David Coulthard, John Watson, James Hunt, and Denny Hulme.
The Sir Malcolm Campbell Trophy, meanwhile, is presented to those who have made a significant impact on British motorsport. CEO Zak Brown collected the trophy on behalf of McLaren, with our team being recognised for our long-standing history and continued success in F1, including last year's Constuctors' Championship win.

Quote of the weekend
A dream come true
"WOOO! WE DID IT! At home. Oh my god, we did it. It's beautiful!"
Lando’s victory lap was reminiscent of the moment a champagne cork pops off the bottle. After an initial, almost inaudible, outburst of screams, he told the team: “This victory is everything I dreamed of.”
Since first setting foot in a kart at the age of seven, Lando had dreamt of winning the Monaco Grand Prix, a feat he was immensely proud to achieve for the first time last month. And yet, ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix, he joked he’d happily trade his most famous win, along with all his other victories, for a win on home soil, such was his determination to become a home race winner.
Thankfully, he’ll not have to give up his Monaco Grand Prix-winning status, nor any of his other trophies. Whether in last season’s crucial season finale, this year’s Monaco Grand Prix, and now the British Grand Prix, Lando has made a habit of winning on the biggest stages and delivering in pressure moments.
The party can begin! 🥳

It was an emotional victory for Lando, who celebrated with the team and his family after the race, while he also revealed what was going through his mind in the final laps: “Everything you might think before the race, you forget. The main thing is just don't f*** it up, that's rule number one.”
“P1 at home, my dream,” read the champagne bottle Lando signed and sprayed on the podium.

Moment of the weekend
Among the greats
Doubtlessly, it was Lando crossing the finish line in first, delivering a historic home victory.
That this was our first home Grand Prix win since 2008 and our first 1-2 here for 25 years, when David Coulthard was followed across the line by Mika Häkkinen, made it that extra bit special.
Lando’s famous victory at Silverstone makes him the 13th British driver to win the British Grand Prix for any team, and the fifth British driver to win the race for McLaren – the 12th of any nationality. He’s the first British driver, other than Lewis Hamilton, to win his home race since David Coulthard, and joins the likes of James Hunt, Jim Clark, and Stirling Moss as British drivers to have won there.
We’ve now claimed a hugely impressive five 1-2 victories so far this season, while winning nine of 12 Grands Prix overall, meaning we’ve collected a host of different trophies, in all shapes and sizes, but none as unique as this weekend’s, which were made entirely of LEGO bricks. The LEGO-made replica of the traditional British Grand Prix trophy, held by Lando in the image below, was made from 2,717 LEGO bricks and weighed in at over 2kg.

Signing off with a shoey
We weren’t short of incredible photos to choose from this weekend, especially with our fan-favourite chrome livery taking to the track, but it was impossible to top this action shot of Zak enjoying a shoey. As has become tradition at the British Grand Prix, Lando and Oscar were peer pressured by the crowd into drinking champagne from their shoes on the fan stage. Only this weekend, they were they joined by CEO Zak Brown, resulting in this iconic image.

What’s next?
A rare break from racing, with more than two weeks to go until our next Formula 1 Grand Prix in Belgium.
During the break, as well as working hard to prepare for the race at Spa, our team will also be taking in our IndyCar and Formula E team's races, while exploring the Goodwood Festival of Speed, all of which take place this upcoming weekend.
