The best moments from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Easter eggs, cinematic shots and a milestone victory: A fly on the wall look at this weekend's action on and off-track

Welcome to our new regular post-race round-up, a final look at the action, where we’ll break down the best and the bonkers of F1 from across the weekend. From our favourite photos to the slickest fits we spotted, plus all the behind-the-scenes goodness you might have missed.

For the second weekend in a row, we earned our first victory at a circuit, as our excellent start to the 2025 season continued. The last time we won four of the opening five races of the season was in 1998, when Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard were at the wheel.

On-track action dominated the headlines in Jeddah, with two victories and an inspired recovery drive from Lando. As the team travel back to the UK, we’ve gone through our favourite moments from the weekend.

Box office brilliance

There’s something cinematic about this shot of Oscar crossing the line to a backdrop of fireworks in Saudi Arabia. It wouldn’t look amiss as the closing shot at the end of a James Bond or Fast and Furious-style film.

Oscar’s win was pure box office, with a particularly thrilling manoeuvre on Lewis Hamilton around the outside going into Turn 22 showcasing his current confidence.

Following up on what was arguably his most complete weekend in F1 last time out in Bahrain, Oscar’s display in Jeddah was a different type of performance: dogged and persistent, he didn't let the Red Bull driver rest over 50 laps, earning a well-earned third win of 2025.

A team effort

Our crew put in an incredible shift to rebuild Lando’s car ahead of the race, battling through the hot temperatures in the final round of a demanding triple-header. Their heroic efforts were well rewarded, as Lando drove a determined race from 10th to fourth on a track known for its lack of overtaking opportunities.

Starting on the Hards, Lando’s clever tyre management, alongside eye-catching overtakes on Carlos Sainz, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli, allowed him to make the alternate strategy work, as he narrowly missed out on the podium.

None of which would have been possible were it not for the hard work of the team in getting his car ready in time for the race. We may be biased, but we don’t believe there’s a better group on the grid.

Excellent Ella

Oscar wasn’t the only McLaren driver on the top step in Jeddah, Development Driver Ella Lloyd won for the first time in F1 Academy on Saturday in the reverse grid race. The Welsh racer was flawless on the streets of Saudi Arabia, scampering ahead of her Rodin Motorsport teammate Emma Felbermayr when the lights went out and brushing off a challenge from the more experienced Maya Weug, who emerged as her main threat.

In only her third F1 Academy round – second as a full-time driver in the series after her Wild Card appearance in Singapore last year – Ella showcased why those at McLaren rate her so highly. She looked comfortable throughout, despite the pressure from Weug, and even navigated what could have been a tricky Safety Car restart to secure McLaren’s first win of any kind in Jeddah.

Eggs-traordinary

We enjoyed a cracking Easter weekend in Saudi Arabia. There were so many reasons to shell-ebrate and our social media platforms were full of eggs-ellent posts from the Papaya Army, but this Easter photograph from @vindesigns2016, featuring his Lando-themed egg, was our favourite.

Quote of the weekend
Reason to celebrate

“WOO-HOO-HOO! Well done, everyone. The car was great. Massive three weeks. Let's keep it going. Got a lot of fun to have this year.”

Known for his calm demeanour, Oscar isn’t typically the most expressive driver over team radio, but the Australian is clearly enjoying himself at the moment and couldn’t help but let out a “woo-hoo-hoo” after being confirmed as the race winner in Jeddah and the new leader of the Drivers’ Championship. He’s the first Australian to do so since his manager, Mark Webber, led the Championship 15 years ago.

Our first win in Saudi Arabia means we’ve now won at a record 50 different F1 circuits.

Outfit of the weekend
Your shirt, your way

Go to any football match in the country, and you’ll be surrounded by fans wearing replica shirts with their names on the back. Thanks to our friends at Castore, this trend has now made its way to F1, with fans able to get their hands on a personalised teamwear shirt with their names on the back.

@LynseyG59896057 was showing hers off on socials across the weekend, styling it with a pair of blue jeans. We cannot wait to see these at races through the season. You can get yours here.

What’s next?

A well-earned rest after a busy first triple-header of the season. We’ll regroup at the McLaren Technology Centre this week to go over the data from three successful races, before heading to Miami for the first time since Lando’s maiden win at the US circuit last year.
