The best moments from the Miami Grand Prix

Two wins, one failed dance move, and a new face on the podium: A fly on the wall look at this weekend's action on and off-track

Welcome to our regular post-race round-up, a final look at the action, where we’ll break down the best and the bonkers of F1 from across the weekend. From our favourite photos to the slickest fits we spotted, plus all the behind-the-scenes goodness you might have missed.

Returning to The Magic City one year on from last year’s famous victory in Miami – a key moment in our subsequent Constructors’ title triumph – we enjoyed another trophy-laden weekend. Two new winners’ trophies will be coming back to the factory with the team this week after Lando finished first in Saturday’s Sprint and Oscar claimed victory in Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Here, we’ll cover the best of the action on and off track, from Friday’s NFL crossover, to Sunday’s LEGO cars race, and Oscar and Lando’s overtake-fuelled one-two in the Grand Prix.

Magic fits in The Magic City

Two members of the Papaya Army went the extra mile to celebrate the first US race of the 2025 F1 season, wearing these incredible race suits.

We loved Lando and Oscar’s 305-themed attire on Friday, with the duo turning up to track in some of their favourite pieces from Reiss, New Era and SunGod’s respective Miami ranges, but this fan-fit was inspired.

Cool, calm and collected. Lando’s steely look in this photograph epitomised his determined race-winning performance later that day in the Sprint, the British star cutting a composed figure during a chaotic 16 laps.

A block-buster bonus race

Seven months after he took the drivable LEGO Technic McLaren P1™ for a spin around Silverstone, Lando was back in a car made from LEGO, this time for a unique drivers’ parade.

Alongside the rest of the grid, Lando drove him and Oscar around the track in one of the cars - made up of nearly 400,000 LEGO bricks and weighing 1,000kg - which were based on the LEGO F1 Speed Champions range.

Unsurprisingly, the field couldn’t resist racing one another, and it proved a dramatic affair. Lando pulled away nicely from Pole, with Oscar in the backseat, ahead of the Ferrari, but they were overtaken by the Mercedes, and then suffered contact with the Alpine… thankfully, the Grand Prix went a lot more smoothly.

With the help of Mastercard, we invited one of Oscar's biggest fans, Hanna, to a Papaya Army meetup in Miami. But there was a surprise in store for Hanna, as only one other person would be joining her... Oscar himself.

Hanna is one of our many creative supporters. She designs her own clothing and accessories and was busy building some McLaren-themed bracelets for the camera when Oscar walked in and surprised her. Hanna’s Aussie hero initially joined in with the arts and crafts before he invited Hanna for a hot lap of the circuit to cap off her first race in person.

Persistence pays off

“Save the luck for tomorrow”

Oscar enjoyed a lightning getaway when the lights went out for the Sprint, charging through to first ahead of polesitter Kimi Antonelli, after a delayed start due to wet weather. With the track drying, Oscar switched to slicks from first, before an unfortunately timed Safety Car saw him finish in second.

Over team radio after the race, Oscar’s Race Engineer Tom Stallard told him that they were going to “save the luck for tomorrow”. His prediction was proven right. The Australian was brilliant throughout and won from fourth, chalking up his third Grand Prix win in as many races, making him the first McLaren driver to win three consecutive Grands Prix since Mika Häkkinen in 1998.

A team effort

Well, it certainly wasn’t Oscar’s attempt at the Griddy – but at least he stayed true to his word. Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is known for performing dance-themed celebrations after a touchdown in the NFL, and he had made a bet with Oscar on Friday that if he won the race, the Australian would have to do his famous Griddy celebration.

"That was my first attempt at a Griddy live on world TV,” Oscar laughed after the race. “I stayed true to the bet, but that's the one and only time you'll be seeing me do that.”

It was the one blot in an otherwise flawless performance, as Oscar achieved our third win at the circuit in two years and secured our second one-two of the weekend, with Lando in second.

Both drivers put in an eye-catching shift in a hugely entertaining fifth Miami Grand Prix, pulling off multiple overtakes, including impressive moves on Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen. Finishing first and second, we became the only team to finish one-two in a Sprint and a Grand Prix on the same weekend, after Lando had won on Saturday, with Oscar directly behind him.

It wasn’t just our drivers who took the plaudits in Miami. With Oscar and Lando running in first and second, the team made a bold call to pit both drivers simultaneously. It paid off, as our pit crew executed an impeccable double stack stop to ensure they retained their positions. As they collected their trophies, Oscar and Lando were joined by Chief Marketing Officer Lou McEwen, who added her name to the impressive list of women to have represented their teams on an F1 Grand Prix podium.

What’s next?

The team are currently on their way back from Miami ahead of a week back at the McLaren Technology Centre, where they'll use the weekend off from racing to reset and go over what we've learned. After a well earned rest, we'll then head to Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
