Las Vegas may be known for its casinos, but the decision to host a new race in the city was no gamble.
It had been more than 40 years since F1 had last raced in The Neon City. Prior to the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the last time F1 was in Vegas, John Watson finished on the podium for McLaren in the second of a two-year stint racing in the car park of Caesar's Palace. It was a much more glamourous location than the description paints, but not a patch on the spectacle that's expected this time around.
In 2020, Vegas launched a new slogan for the city: "What happens here, only happens here", and that's exactly what you can expect from the Grand Prix, which became F1's first Saturday night race since the 1985 South African Grand Prix.
Every night is electric in Vegas, but their Saturdays are among the liveliest on the planet. The race takes place in the heart of the city's strip on a 6.2km-long, overtake-friendly street track, with cars blasting past the Bellagio Fountain and Caesars Palace under the dazzling lights.
Visually, it's a venue unlike any other, but on-track, comparisons can be drawn to Monza, with the circuit having similar levels of low-downforce to the Temple of Speed and a comparative average speed of around 250km/h (and a top speed of around 342km/h).
It features 17 turns and three straights between 12-15cm wide, leaving plenty of room for wheel-to-wheel racing. Expect 50 laps of the unexpected in the city that defined entertainment.
