“I’m very proud of the whole team” - Celebrating title number 10 in Singapore

The team share their thoughts after securing a second successive Constructors’ World Championship

It wasn’t quite the nerve-jangling showdown of 2024 title decider in Abu Dhabi, but clinching the World Constructors’ Championship in 2025, beneath the lights in Singapore, was a no less satisfying outcome for everyone at McLaren.

Having wrapped up a first Constructors’ Championship since 1998 at the 2024 finale, by a margin of just 14 points, the runaway success in 2025 has made clinching the title more of an expectation.

Sunday’s result at the Singapore Grand Prix – Lando and Oscar third and fourth respectively – sealed the deal, with a total of 650 points putting the team an insurmountable 325 clear of nearest opponent Mercedes.

The relentless performance of the MCL39 from the outset of the season, facilitated by the speed of Lando and Oscar, ensured the Constructors’ Championship will remain at the MTC for another season.

Zak and Andrea

It is the joint-earliest Constructors’ victory in history, having been secured with six of the 24 Grands Prix still to run, and ensures we move into a clear second in the all-time list, on 10 Constructors’ victories. It is the first time we have retained the crown since 1990/91, when we became the first team to win four successive titles.

“It’s pretty awesome, we have an unbelievable team here trackside, and back at the factory, all the men and women have done an awesome job,” said CEO Zak Brown in the immediate aftermath of the race around the streets of Marina Bay. “The whole leadership team, Andrea, our owners and shareholders, it’s such a team effort, it’s awesome to go back-to-back, it’s been a while since we’ve done it.”

Team Principal Andrea Stella praised the entire team in the wake of the back-to-back Constructors’ titles.

“It’s an incredible emotion,” said a beaming Andrea. “I want to share it with the team, and thank them for the incredible work, with six races to go, which looks unbelievable, but that’s thanks to the great work at McLaren. It’s teamwork, and it’s great that teamwork is rewarded like this.”

Team celebrating

Lando celebrated the title on his in-lap, after classifying in third place for his 14th podium of the season, and revelled in the achievement.

“Another title is just a great thing - another Constructors’ Championship,” Lando said in the post-race press conference. “It feels the same as in 2024. To get the title last year was quite an achievement, if you look at where we were three years ago.

“We’ve outdone every team in terms of development, and in a time where it’s almost harder to do than ever with more restrictions - the budget cap, less wind tunnel time - it should be more difficult to dominate, but that’s what the team has done and they’ve given us by a long way the best car on the grid – it’s a nice thing to say, and always puts a smile on your face. We’ve done well, Oscar and I have been pushing each other, you don’t see that at any other team.”

Lando joined the McLaren family in 2017, before stepping up to a race seat in 2019, and has spent his entire career with the team.

“I’ve been with McLaren since I started. It was a very different time and place from where we are now, so that journey makes it more special,” he reflected. “To know the downs, to see the rise we’ve had, the teamwork, and the changes. The leadership from Zak and Andrea has turned things around and made us, as a team, the best in the world – and that’s not a thing many people get to say.”

Morning routine

Oscar has also spent the entirety of his Formula 1 career with the team, having stepped up to a race seat in 2023, and marvelled at the achievement.

“I’m very proud of the whole team,” Oscar said after the race. “This is one of the two objectives we set out to achieve every year – winning the Constructors’ Championship and the Drivers’ Championship – so to achieve it with this many races left of the season is incredibly impressive.

“The car we’ve had this season has been nothing short of amazing, so I’m just very happy for the whole team.”

The MCL39 has been the benchmark package through the majority of the 2025 season, which is the last under the current regulations ahead of Formula 1’s technical overhaul for 2026.

Andrea was quick to pay tribute to the hardworking personnel throughout the entire organisation, given that the decision was made to be bold with the design of the MCL39.

“In terms of the car, if anything, the MCL39 can be summarised in one word: innovation,” Andrea said. “There was a lot of innovation applied to what was last year’s car, and this required quite a bit of bravery at some stage of the 2024 season to commit to the amount of changes that we have applied to go from the 2024 to the 2025 car."

“This involved changing the suspension, the cooling, a little bit of the aerodynamic philosophy, pretty much all the fundamental areas, the interaction of the car with the tyres, so in all those areas there’s been a lot of innovation.”

Naturally, there was sufficient time for the trackside team to celebrate the achievement in front of the garage, with special celebratory T-shirts, the spraying of champagne, and papaya-coloured party poppers unleashed, as hands were raised in joy.

Quite a few of the team members were covered, while there were the standard attempts to surprise the drivers with champagne down the race suits. Lando and Oscar joined in the celebrations, posing for photos and getting stuck in. But, unlike the last-gasp triumph of 2024, the record-equalling clinching of the 2025 title means there are six Grands Prix remaining—including three Sprint events—with Oscar and Lando contesting the Drivers’ Championship.

“They’ve driven brilliantly all season,” Zak said. “You can’t win the Constructors’ without two awesome race drivers. As you can see, we’re letting them race. There’s a lot of races to go and hopefully there’s some more victories for both of them.”

The Champions Collection!

With Oscar and Lando separated by only 22 points – and Max Verstappen 63 points behind – the Drivers' Championship remains wide open.

“I'm very proud of the way Lando and Oscar have been part of the process so far,” Andrea said. “If we have been able to navigate through these, let’s say, difficult factors, it's because we have Lando and Oscar involved. They've been great individuals, great contributors, and that's why it's been successful so far.

“We will work hard to make sure this is true for the remainder of the season, and the years ahead, in which we will keep on racing with Lando and Oscar.”
