Monaco stands apart from every other grand prix. We have other street races, other races with a skyline of superyachts, even other races on the Riviera – but there’s nothing quite like Monaco. That can be good or bad.
This weekend it was good. The raw statistics suggest very little happened but the reality was a race that kept everyone guessing right to the end. We left happier than most. Monaco perhaps didn't play to the strengths of the MCL34, so the team were prepared for a fight: having good long run pace and being kind to the tyres isn’t particularly a virtue on a circuit with ultra-low degradation and a near-certain one-stop strategy. Sixth place for Carlos, best of the midfield, and our highest finishing position of the year represented a really good return. But more of that later – first some things you may have missed.
