TEAM MANAGER, McLAREN RACING
Paul James has spent his entire career in motorsport, first working for Mazda Rally Team Europe aged just 17.
After stints at Onyx, Benetton Formula, and in North America’s Indy Car World Series, he joined McLaren in 1995, working on the McLaren F1 road car. In 1997, he joined the Formula 1 team, and has remained on the F1 frontlines ever since.
He has worked closely with drivers such as David Coulthard, Juan Pablo Montoya and Lewis Hamilton, and was the number-one mechanic during Lewis’ title-winning 2008 season.
He became chief mechanic in 2012, and was appointed as team manager, with overall responsibility for race team operations, at the start of the 2017 season.
