Our style guide to channelling James Hunt’s iconic fashion sense, using pieces from our latest clothing collection
One of motorsport’s most fashionable drivers has a new clothing collection dedicated to his unmistakable style. Created in partnership with PUMA, the James Hunt collection draws on his wild, rebellious fashion sense and classic 1970s silhouettes. It includes everything from racing jackets and fitted tees to a special pair of PUMA Speedcats.
“It’s amazing to see how he’s well remembered and celebrated, and now more than ever, focusing on the fashion aspect,” says his son Freddie after seeing the collection in person for the first time. “He was fashionable but not by any intent. The fact that people are remembering that style, I imagine he would think that’s pretty cool.”
Our newest collection shows how motorsport fashion has evolved into an aesthetic of its own. Through retro silhouettes, statement jackets and subtle racing details, the collection makes it easy to bring a bit of James’ free spirit into your everyday wardrobe. Here’s how we’d style it…
You can never go wrong with an all-black outfit, and the ML LS James Hunt Racing T7 Jacket is a staple piece for pulling off that cool winter look. Designed to echo James’ racing overalls, the black twill jacket takes inspiration from the heart-embroidered badge seen on some of his earlier suits. It has a structured yet flowing fit, especially through the arms, and features those classic wide, sharp collars James often wore turned up.
The red seams and detailing on the jacket simulate racing lines and add a nice pop of colour to a very dark outfit. It is a great jacket already, but would look even better when layered with the Reiss Maddox Jumper, worn by Oscar Piastri, for a more sophisticated look. You can play it more casual with a fitted tee, black jeans and ballet flats or trainers.

Caps are by far the easiest accessory to style as they go with practically everything. The Trucker Cap is great for everyday wear, no matter the time or place. It looks great with a casual T-shirt and ripped jeans, or even a mini skirt and an oversized cable-knit jumper. Chucking this cap on is a simple way to add ‘motorcore’ to your look.

Sneakerheads can thank McLaren for bringing a new variation of racing boots to the world.
Famously, James didn’t like being restricted, but due to his height and the size of his feet, James struggled to fit comfortably in the cockpits of the 1970s Formula 1 cars, and so would cut the toes off his racing boots to give himself more freedom, control and room to breathe. The ML Speedcat Mid JH are inspired by this practice, making them truly unique.
For a casual look, pair them with baggy jeans and a loose tee, such as the Lando Norris UK T-shirt. For a more elevated outfit, try tailored trousers and a leather jacket. No matter how you wear them, the boots are a great statement piece and can add a playful touch to your daily outfits, honouring James’ rebellious fashion sense.

Graphic tees have never been more in. The black ML LS James Hunt tee is perfect for a streetwear-inspired look, paired with cargo trousers and black PUMA Speedcat sneakers. For a clean, modern outfit inspired by Lando, layer it with a collared shirt or a fitted white top. Whether you’re heading to a race or the cinema, this tee is easy to style with pieces you already own.

Created to commemorate James’ first title win with McLaren, the 1976 fitted tee was designed with the decade in mind. To truly honour his ‘70s aesthetic, tuck it into high-rise bell-bottom jeans and pair it with Greek sandals, or simply go barefoot. The styling possibilities are endless, as it can be dressed up or down, and you can pick out the coloured detailing with a matching pair of heels or a mini handbag. It's a timeless way to channel James' iconic style while adding your own twist.
