McLAREN RACING HERITAGE DEPARTMENT

Learn more about the team behind the maintenance and operation of historic McLaren Racing cars

McLaren Racing was founded in 1963, entering our first Formula 1 race in 1966. We have since won 22 Formula 1 world championships, over 200 Formula 1 Grands Prix, the Indianapolis 500 three times, and the Le Mans 24 Hours on our first attempt.

Our long and storied past in motor racing means that we have some of the most iconic racing cars in history. Today, the McLaren Racing heritage department is the team behind the running and operation of these cars so that owners can participate in demonstration runs and track day events, operated with the full support of a dedicated crew of McLaren Racing engineers and mechanics.

This team is working in collaboration with Paul Lanzante Limited, a world-renowned engineering company specialising in the maintenance, restoration and operation of historic McLaren racing cars.

The company was established in 2012 by Paul Lanzante, who led McLaren to outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.

Paul and his team are well known to McLaren Racing’s heritage department, and this relationship has strengthened yet further, with McLaren Racing’s heritage department agreeing to share technical information, know-how and equipment with Paul Lanzante Limited.

It is hoped this collaboration will help enhance Paul Lanzante Limited’s capabilities for the maintenance, restoration and operation of pre-2005 McLaren Formula 1 cars – that being MP4/20 and earlier.

Piers Thynne, McLaren Racing’s Chief Operating Officer and head of its heritage department, commented “We very much hope that by deepening the pool of engineering know-how for this important era of McLaren Formula 1 cars, we will help to preserve the legacy of McLaren Racing’s rich history from this period and give owners of these historic cars more choice when it comes to maintenance and restoration projects.”
