Reigning champions McLaren Shadow’s title defence will kick off again later this month in the re-branded F1 Sim Racing Championship, following Formula 1’s announcement of the 2023/24 calendar.

The F1 Sim Racing Championship has made its return to a live studio environment this season, with races taking place on LAN in Stockholm, Sweden. The season started with Event 1, which saw us race on the Bahrain International Circuit.

Fans won’t have to wait long for the return of the sim racing series, with the hotly anticipated season getting back underway with Event 2 on April 10, competing on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Lucas, Dani, Wilson and the team have been working hard to ensure they are prepared for the next 11 rounds and will be looking to bounce back when competing on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, following a frustrating season-opener in which both drivers finished outside of the top 10.

McLaren Shadow won the 2022 F1 Esports Pro Constructors’ Championship with four wins, five further podiums and one pole. McLaren Shadow’s Lucas Blakely won the Drivers’ title.

Lucas remains with the team for his title defence, along with fellow 2022 McLaren Shadow driver Wilson Hughes. Dani Moreno has returned to the team after a spell with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Esports. Dani previously competed for McLaren Shadow in the 2020 F1 Esports Pro Series, where he was named Rookie of the Year after finishing eighth with one podium.

F1 Sim Racing World Championship returns

Lucas Blakeley, Driver, McLaren Shadow, said:

“The calendar for this season looks great. It’s really exciting for F1 Sim Racing to be competing in a live environment again, as this was something that I had been looking forward to doing again since I first competed in person in 2019. To be in that intense tunnel vision mindset, with everyone competing against one another in the same room, is a cool experience and something I’ve enjoyed in the past.

“I am proud to be continuing to represent McLaren. We have a great team here who have been working really hard, I am looking forward to another exciting season with them all.”

Wilson Hughes, Driver, McLaren Shadow, said:

“I’m super excited to be racing live this season. It’s not the first time I’ve raced in this environment, but it’s great to be doing it with F1 Sim Racing.

“I find the environment and the fact that we are all in the same place more exciting as it brings a lot of rawness to the table, with different pressures and expectations. I can't wait for the challenge, and I am excited to try and fight for strong points with McLaren.”

Dani Moreno, Driver, McLaren Shadow, said:

“I'm really happy that we’re going back to racing in a live environment for this season. I’ve always felt comfortable at the live events, it’s a great way to connect with the F1 Sim Racing community. It’s going to be a challenge and slightly nerve-wracking, but I’m looking forward to it.

“With the team we’ve got here, I am looking forward to the excitement of racing again with McLaren Shadow, competing against other drivers and fighting for big points.”

Joel Chapman, Team Manager, McLaren Shadow, said:

“F1 Sim Racing is back in a live environment, which is a fantastic opportunity for the team and the sport. Having all the drivers together in one room again should elevate the experience for the drivers, teams and fans.

“The calendar looks strong, particularly as we’ll be racing in a live environment in Sweden. It gives us the brilliant opportunity to race amongst the F1 Sim Racing community.

“Racing other teams face to face should make this season even more exciting, and the whole of McLaren Shadow are looking forward to it. Following our success last year, we can’t wait to see what this new challenge will bring and we look forward to seeing the Papaya Army’s support in full force.”
