Hear from NEOM McLaren Formula E Team drivers Jake Hughes, Sam Bird, and Team Principal Ian James after the Mexico City E-Prix.
Free Practice 2 | 1:14.123 | P10 |
Qualifying | 1:13.617 | P6 |
Race | P7 |
“We’ve just wrapped up our first race of Season 10. It started both positively and negatively in the same session, in FP1 – topping the timesheets and finishing in the barriers at the end of the session. I’m very thankful to the whole team for the work they put in overnight to repair the car for today. The team put a fast car together today and we managed to get into the Duels. It was a shame we couldn’t get into the Semi-Finals, but P6 was a good starting position. I finished the race P7 overall – but plenty of positives and it was great to start with some points on the board. Our efficiency and pace looked good, and I’m looking forward to taking our learnings into Diriyah in two weeks’ time.”

“My first weekend with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team is in the books. Overall, it was great to start working with such a strong team. In push running, we were making some good in-roads, and had the pace to make it into the Duels. The race was more challenging for us, especially towards the end, but we have learnt a lot throughout the week and I am looking forward to coming back stronger in Diriyah.”
“As always, it has been a pleasure and a privilege to race here in Mexico City – the fans here are simply phenomenal. For the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, I would describe it as having been a messy weekend. We encountered issues in each session which hampered our performance. With the competition as close as it is, we need to minimise disruption, in order to fight at the front. That being said, and despite the fact we are not overly happy with the end result, there are a number of positives to take away from this event. If I compare our performance today to the first race of Season 9, our overall management of the race has improved greatly. Over the weekend we have shown decent pace and energy management, and that gives me cause for optimism.
“I would also like to thank the team for the efforts in rebuilding Jake’s car following yesterday’s incident and for the diligent work in unlocking car performance throughout the weekend.
“So, we now look forward to Diriyah – the first of our home races for this season!"
