THE SPANISH GRAND PRIX ACCORDING TO SOCIAL MEDIA

We take a look back at Barcelona through your eyes

Papaya Army, you really are the best of us.

On a tough Sunday in Spain, you showed solidarity. From the high of Lando’s P3 in qualifying, to the heartbreaking low of his Lap 1 collision in the Spanish Grand Prix, we went through a roller coaster of emotions in Barcelona.

You quite rightly celebrated the highs, but you also stuck with us for the lows, showing your support for the team after a tough result on Sunday and backing us to come back fighting, and that is exactly what we intend to do.

And although the end result wasn’t what we were hoping for, there were some good moments along the way, and a whole lot of love. We’re now back at the McLaren Technology Centre, working hard to debrief the disappointing result and to find any possible learnings. We’ll take it all away and use it to improve and inspire us.

Whilst we crack on behind the scenes, here’s the best of your social media support from the weekend.

Starting off a race weekend right, with freshly baked bread… The ultimate breakfast.

What a great question. Is J.J. Lehto available? He’d be our first pick.

We’re not sure what Lando had for breakfast (probably some of Oscar’s freshly baked bread), but it worked. The British racer stormed to an incredible P3 finish in qualifying, securing him a second row start for the grand prix.

We woke up with a spring in our step on Sunday, with Lando starting from third on the grid and Oscar in ninth, thanks to a double Q3 appearance. It was amazing to see so many of you out at the track, ready to cheer us on from the second row.

Okay. So, we all know how this ends. Lando’s collision with Hamilton on the first lap of the race was gut-wrenching. But thank you for all of your support in the lead-up to the race and for not giving up on us in what ended up being a long and painful afternoon.

Lando dropped to the back of the grid following the clash with Hamilton, whilst Oscar had dropped down the order at the start of the race, but both drivers kept on pushing.

Oscar and Lando  fought on and even pulled off several overtakes, but finished a difficult afternoon in 13th and 17th, respectively. We were hurting, but you rallied behind us in true Papaya Army fashion.
