Hear from NEOM McLaren Formula E Team drivers Taylor Barnard and Sam Bird, and Team Principal Ian James after the first Shanghai E-Prix.

“First race in Shanghai finished.  It was a crazy race, going from P2 at the start, to almost last, and then being able to end up on the podium. The team have done a great job to get the strategy right for me, helping me to make the comeback, so I want to say a massive thanks to them.

“The car was in the perfect window; the team have done a great job and I’m looking forward to some wet driving tomorrow.”

“Race 1 done and dusted here in Shanghai, and I’m really happy with what we’ve been able to achieve today as a team. We’ve secured a P3 and a P7 finish, and even though I feel I could have got a little bit more out of the race, it’s still points on the board for the team and we’re moving in the right direction.

 “I’m looking forward to tomorrow, it should be interesting in the wet, but we’ll give it our best and see if we can bring home another decent points haul.”

“What a roller-coaster of a first race here in Shanghai! Due to the level of chaos which featured throughout, it was important to trust our process, our strategy and our drivers. To come away with a podium and fastest lap for Taylor with good points for both him and Sam was a strong result. We now need to reset for tomorrow, which will be a very different challenge, given the weather forecast!”
