Built in 1974, Mugello Circuit has never hosted a grand prix but, much to the delight of the Formula 1 fraternity, that’s set to change in 2020 with the Tuscan Grand Prix. Carved into the Tuscan hills and just a 75-mile drive away from Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters, the circuit has been owned by the Scuderia since 1988 and is best known for the remarkable MotoGP races that have raged here.

Although a grand prix has never been held at Mugello, it’s far from alien to F1. It has been used as a testing venue, with the most recent collective test taking place in 2012. The circuit is characterised by its long, sweeping bends, a 0.7-mile straight and plenty of elevation changes. The run through Casanova, Savelli and into Arrabbiata 1 is a breathtaking sequence of corners that culminates in Arrabbiata 2 – a fearsome, blind right-hander.

Fast and demanding, Mugello is sure to sort the men from them boys. And having raced here in Italian F4 back in 2015, Lando Norris is well aware of the fierce challenge it presents: “These high-speed, medium-speed corners test the physical attributes of the driver to the limit. This is F1 to the limit in terms of how quick F1 cars are around these types of corners.”
