
McLAREN Racing launches McLAREN United AS WEC Hypercar Team at 24 Hours of Le Mans
McLaren Racing will enter FIA WEC in 2027 in collaboration with United Autosports, led by Team Principal James Barclay
McLaren Racing is thrilled to officially launch its McLaren Racing Endurance Team – McLaren United AS – on the 30th anniversary of its legendary 1995 win on debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with drivers J.J. Lehto, Yannick Dalmas, and Masanori Sekiya.
McLaren Racing is one of the only team's to have won the prestigious Triple Crown: winning the Monaco GP, the Indy 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans – something it hopes to replicate when the team enters the premier class of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Having announced its LMDh entry in the premier category of FIA WEC for 2027 earlier this year, McLaren Racing today announces details of the new Hypercar designed by McLaren, which will be run in collaboration with United Autosports. The Hypercar which will be produced by Dallara and run in collaboration with United Autosports, featuring a V6 twin-turbo engine.
James Barclay will join as Team Principal in September from his most recent role as Managing Director of JLR Motorsport and Team Principal of Jaguar TCS Racing in the FIA Formula E World Championship, once the season wraps at the end of July. James will join the McLaren Racing Executive Leadership Team and report into CEO, Zak Brown.

He brings a wealth of experience to the role of Team Principal having been instrumental in setting up the Jaguar Formula E programme in 2016 and subsequently leading the team to numerous victories during his tenure, including the team’s first World Championship win since 1991.
McLaren Racing will offer fans attending the historic Le Mans race a first look at its 2027 challenger with an exclusive reveal in the Manufacturers’ Village on Saturday, 14 June from 10:00 CEST with CEO, Zak Brown.
