McLaren RacingYour guide to the 2024 Mexico City E-Prix

“I’m really excited to get going in my second season in Formula E. Last year, there were some big highs and I learnt some lessons along the way, which is inevitable for someone in their first year. I’m looking forward to taking what I learnt last season and putting that into practice, starting in Mexico City this weekend. Last season, we began quite strongly with a top five finish here, so I’m hoping we can put on a similar performance this year and push forward.”

“I’m extremely excited to begin the season in Mexico City this weekend. We’ve had a very productive winter break at the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team and everyone has been working very hard to ensure that we are in the best possible place going into our first race this year. I firmly believe that if we all perform to the best of our abilities, then we’ll come away from Mexico City with the results that we want and hitting the targets we have set. Bring it on.”

“I’m looking forward to getting Season 10 started with the team, we can’t wait to get underway.

“The time back at base has given the opportunity to look into every area which is within our control and ensure that we put ourselves in a position to extract all available performance as we look to take a step forward in the new season.

“A key focus has been on refining our work on the simulator, using the learning gained through last season to improve the correlation between the real and simulated worlds. The feedback from both Jake and Sam has been positive in this regard, and both feel well prepared to kick the season off in Mexico.

“With regard to our drivers, we are very happy to continue with Jake, who will be able to build on his successful first season in Formula E. We will be welcoming Sam alongside him to the team for his first season with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, bringing with him a wealth of experience.

"While we are optimistic, we’ll have to be realistic as well: we are conscious that our competitors will have taken steps forward as well and, with the hardware remaining homologated for a second season, we need to ensure that we squeeze every ounce of performance from the areas we are able to change.

“The off-season was welcome, but now we want to get back to what we enjoy doing most: racing. We’re looking forward to taking the first step in the right direction on track this weekend in Mexico City. The crowd here always delivers, adding to the best thinkable atmosphere. Let’s go racing!”

Driver line-up

Ahead of Season 10, the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team announced its new driver line-up of Jake Hughes and Sam Bird.

Jake has re-signed with the team for 2023/24 after an impressive first season in Formula E. In his first race in FE, the 2023 Mexico City E-Prix, Jake qualified P3, finishing the race in P5. He then secured the team’s first Pole position at only his third race in Diriyah, before clinching a second Pole position at the 2023 Monaco E-Prix. He finished the 2022/23 season in P12.

The team secured Sam Bird as Jake's new teammate for Season 10. Sam is one of the only drivers to have competed in Formula E since Season 1 and is also one of the most successful drivers on the grid, claiming 11 wins, 26 podium places and six Pole positions over the course of those nine seasons.
