The British Grand Prix according to social media

Apex auditions, celebrations in the sea and a papaya podium party: Britain's best tweets

Okay Google, show us an unforgettable British Grand Prix…

We’re not often lost for words, but as a British driver in a chrome McLaren led our home race at Silverstone, we were left unable to form coherent sentences in the McLaren garage, such was our excitement – it was just screams and stunned silence.

Thankfully, the race team kept their cool and helped Lando to deliver us a first British Grand Prix podium since 2010. Our home hero crossed the line in second, two positions ahead of Oscar in fourth, to secure a historic result for the team and spark pandemonium from the papaya-coloured crowd.

We’re sure a few of you are nursing some sore throats and sore heads following yesterday’s memorable result, so to help you get over those Monday blues, we’ve covered the best of the British Grand Prix in our social media wrap-up.

Silverstone is always an excellent opportunity to go through your old photo albums.

Papaya as far as the eye can see.

An Oscar-worthy acting performance. Deserving of a role in Apex, we would say?

Driving their upgraded MCL60s, Lando and Oscar finished second and third in qualifying, with our home hero only narrowly missing out on pole. It seemed you were all feeling rather smug, and who can blame you?

We could write 100 articles and post 1,000 tweets and never do justice to how hard the team have been working on the upgrades at the factory, but we imagine the reward of seeing Lando and Oscar both in the top three at the end of qualifying was ample compensation.

New rule: @savsjosh now has to wear this shirt for every single qualifying session.

Wait, you did what… Why?!

Ice cream gets a bad wrap: it’s everyone’s go-to during tough times, so it’s nice to see it being used for celebration.

The breakfast of second-row starters.

Happy boss, happy life. That’s the saying, right?

The Lando selfie is back and it’s here to stay.

Nothing to see here, just @McLarenSte manifesting chaos.

This is perfect. Perfect, perfect, perfect.

So much about the British Grand Prix was brilliant, but the timing of the Safety Car wasn’t, as it allowed Lewis Hamilton to leapfrog Oscar and left many of those around us on faster Soft tyres, whilst we were on Hards. Little did we know, Lando and Oscar were about to put on a defensive masterclass.

After a brilliant back and forth with Hamilton, Lando crossed the line ahead of his compatriot in second to bring home a British Grand Prix podium, whilst Oscar finished in fourth for his best F1 result to date.

A heroic performance from our Aussie rookie.

Double British podium vibes.

How is your Monday, McLaren fans?

Was anyone else to excited to sleep on Sunday night?

If Sunday’s result wasn’t enough, we’ve got the Goodwood Festival of Speed coming up this weekend. Long may the British vibes continue!
