Paint the town pink McLAREN supports Breast Cancer Awareness month

Despite its hard-nosed nature, the Formula 1 community has long been a supporter of good causes, whether through individual donations or teams rallying to support a particular charity or worthy cause.

For the first time ever, though, Formula 1 has come together as a whole to support a single charity at this weekend’s US Grand Prix, in Austin, Texas.

In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide initiative to raise both awareness and funds to fight the disease, Formula 1 has joined forces with Susan G. Komen, the world’s leading breast cancer organisation.

And, with the co-operation of every team in the pit-lane, the Austin race will paint Formula 1 pink – the colour used to denote support for breast cancer awareness – in a bid to highlight and showcase the important work being done to fight the disease.

That means Austin’s Circuit Of The Americas will look a little different this weekend, with pink branding prevalent throughout the pit-lane and track signage. Even Pirelli’s Option tyres will all be branded pink, instead of the regular purple colouring.

At McLaren, we’re wholeheartedly embracing and supporting the cause, and have been working on interesting and innovative ways to make a statement in pink.

So, this weekend, you’ll notice:

-    Fernando and Stoffel both sporting limited-edition pink driver caps
-    Those pink caps are also available to buy - but only in extremely linited numbers. Click here to buy one - but be quick, they won’t last long
-    The whole team will have pink slips on the cuffs of their long-sleeve shirts
-    Every garage headset will be fitted with a pink microphone pop shield
-    Everyone will wear a pink ribbon across the weekend, and the pit-crew will get pink-ribbon decals on their helmets
-    In the car, the drivers will be wearing pink gloves
-    Our website features pink branding for the entire weekend, as you may have noticed by now!
-    Even the MTC, our headquarters in Woking, has joined in: it’s sporting dramatic pink lighting along the famous boulevard and a bright pink sign at the entrance - you can’t miss it if you’re driving past
-    Finally, our very own #SneakyKiwi will be making a one-off appearance in pink

So, we’ve changed to make a difference. And we hope you’ll support Formula 1 and Susan G. Komen in embracing this good cause, too.
