FORMULA 1 ANNOUNCES PROVISIONAL 2021 CALENDAR

"This is extremely positive news for the sport"

Formula 1 has announced the provisional race calendar for the 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. Following an unprecedented year for the sport in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in a revised calendar of 17 races, next year’s season bears a strong resemblance to the original 2020 schedule.

The 2021 calendar features a record-breaking 23 races – one more than originally planned for 2020. The Australian Grand Prix returns in its traditional season-opening slot on 21 March, with fans expected to attend races throughout a campaign that will conclude at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit on 5 December.

After the covid-19 pandemic thwarted plans for Formula 1 to take to the track at the iconic Zandvoort circuit for the first time since 1985, the Dutch Grand Prix will make its eagerly anticipated return on 5 September. Elsewhere, the penultimate grand prix of 2021 is a new addition, with Formula 1 set to race at Jeddah Street Circuit in Saudi Arabia.

Zak Brown, CEO, McLaren Racing, commented:

“This is extremely positive news for the sport: its teams, partners, promoters, media and, most of all, fans. As we approach the final four races of a 17-race season – an outstanding achievement for the only global sport to return to full competition this year – it is testament to the incredible ongoing work and diligence of F1, the FIA, promoters and all the teams that Formula 1 is now able to announce a full calendar for 2021.

“We will continue to work closely with Formula 1 and the FIA, who have set a leading example with the teams in the way they have implemented the return to racing through stringent and effective protocols and procedures. This collective experience gives us high confidence that the sport will return to a level of normality for the 2021 season.”
