We're edging closer to the McLaren Shadow semi-final in December.

The Real Racing 3 qualifier has found three of eight talented gamers that will head to the McLaren Technology Centre to compete in our esports competition. 

Henrik Drue, Lasse Wiman, and now Frenchman Grégoire Forret all set fastest laps via the mobile qualifier and will fly to the UK to challenge for a place in the McLaren Shadow grand final.

We spoke to 19-year-old Grégoire ahead of the semi-final to get to know our newest gamer.

What’s your favourite type of car to race online?

My favourite type of car to race online is a supercar or a hyper car. Supercars such as: the Porsche GT3 RS, McLaren 720S, Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Ferrari 812 Superfast, F12tdf, Ford GT, etc. And for hyper cars: Köenigsegg, Pagani, Bugatti, McLaren. These are cars I dream of driving in real-life one day.

Being able to do it in RR3 give me an idea of their performance. I love these cars because they represent the know-how of the brand. 

What’s your favourite racing game?

My favourite racing games is RR3, because it’s the most realistic car game in App Store. Also, because I'm able to play it on my mobile device.

Favourite non-racing game?

I only play RR3. I play other games but not for very long.

Favourite (real-life) racing driver?

My favourite racing driver is Daniel Ricciardo. 

Favourite (real-life) race track?

Spa-Franchorchamps - a classic.

What does McLaren mean to you?

McLaren means competition. It is an iconic brand in the history of Formula 1. Thanks to their F1 heritage, McLaren knew how to create road cars with technologies from the sport.

Any tips for McLaren Shadow hopefuls?

I've never taken part in an esports competition before, so it's hard to say. But maybe just... enjoy!

What gave you the edge to make it through?

What has allowed me to successfully qualify is the encouragement I have received from other RR3 players. I thank them for their support.

What does gaming mean to you?

Gaming allows me to compete against a lot of people. RR3 allowed me to make friends, especially thanks to the McLaren Shadow competition. The game is for me a hobby but I think that a talented player in a game is a good driver in real life.

When you’re not working/gaming, what are you doing?

During my free time, I do a lot of all-terrain biking. I also play tennis and sometimes I go karting. I also enjoy watching racing like the 24h of Le Mans, 6 Hours of Spa, etc. Basically, I’m a huge fan of cars!
