That was the weekend that was

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix according to social media

Sebastian Vettel's farewell dinner on Thursday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix broke F1 Twitter as supporters worldwide dreamt up the possible conversation topics and debated where they'd position themselves amongst the 20 drivers on the table. But it wasn't the only viral moment of the weekend.

Daniel's McLaren goodbye, the unveiling of a one-off livery and Lando's temporary switch to the cockpit of an aeroplane were amongst our own stand-out moments from a weekend in which we closed out the season in solid style, with a double-points finish.

It gave us plenty to digest as we reviewed social media from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and picked out our favourite posts. Here's what you made of the season finale…

The weekend began with the first of many, many tributes for Daniel, ahead of his final race for the team.

We'll be there.

The ULTIMATE dinner party. Someone get us a seat at that table.

Ahead of the final race, we unveiled a limited edition VUSE livery for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, designed by Anna Tangles as part of the Driven by Change initiative.

Can our car look like this every week?

We can't say we didn't feel sorry for the markers of the F1 game, though…

We had a special request from one of our friends over in America.

Ohh, go on then…

Pato's grin was the widest in the whole garage, but there wasn't a single person who wasn't smiling on behalf of the Arrow McLaren SP racer following his competitive F1 debut in FP1.

We're so proud of you, Pato.

Adding pilot to his ever-growing CV.

Hang it in the Louvre.

Thanks for asking, @Connor_Bangtan. We were feeling ALL of the emotions on Saturday morning.

Pierreee Gaaaslyyyyyy!!

Was great to see you there, @Formula_Isabel!

We had a good feeling ahead of quali.

... And Lando and Daniel both made it through to Q3 to ensure we weren't disappointed.

Hmmm, we've seen this somewhere before…

Ahh, we know!

Daniel penned an emotional letter to fans ahead of his final race and we were not emotionally prepared for your heart-warming reaction to it.

This is beautiful, @life_of_niksi.

@Leighlarlar's nails never disappoint.

Would have been rude not to, @kirstyamcd.

This is some next level baking. It's no wonder we always get so hungry whilst writing That Was The Weekend That was.

That's one clever cat.

For one last time this year… IT'S RACE DAY.

Where were you all watching from?

How about, you, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?

We capped off the season with a double-points finish, Lando in sixth and Daniel ninth. It was a solid result to finish the year with and was followed by some moving radio messages and even a touching tribute on Daniel's steering wheel.

You ask, we deliver. A short story staring @LoweyForSure.

Annnnnnnd, that's a wrap! 22 races done and dusted. Thank you for following us this season, through thick and thin, highs and lows, ups and downs. Your support has been unconditional, and we couldn't have asked for anymore.

And thank you to our fellow team behind the scenes who have poured everything in throughout the course of a long, hard season. Time for a well-earned rest.

Right, what do we do now? Anyone got any good book recommendations?
