James Barclay, Executive Director of McLaren Endurance Racing and Team Principal of McLaren United AS, brings a wealth of leadership and motorsport experience to McLaren’s ambitious World Endurance Championship (WEC) programme. Recognised for his strategic vision and passion for racing, James leads McLaren’s endurance efforts as the team prepares to compete at the pinnacle of sports car racing, building on the brand’s legendary Le Mans heritage and overall pursuit of sporting excellence. Before joining McLaren, James enjoyed a distinguished tenure at Jaguar Land Rover, where he served as Team Principal of Jaguar TCS Racing and Managing Director of JLR Motorsport. He was instrumental in establishing Jaguar’s Formula E programme in 2015 and guided the team from its inaugural season through to its first FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship in 2024. During his time at JLR, James also led the strategy for Land Rover’s debut in international motorsport with the iconic Defender model taking on the Everest of the off-road world, the Dakar Rally and the FIA World Rally Raid Championship. The team went on to win on their Dakar debut in 2026. James’s motorsport career is underpinned by a deep understanding of competition and performance, shaped by roles across premium automotive brands including Lotus, Bentley and JLR. With his team, James is focused on taking McLaren back to the top step of the 24 Hours of Le Mans – one third of the Triple Crown campaign that the Papaya family aims to claim once again.
