That was the weekend that was
The Hungarian Grand Prix according to social media
On a weekend when football finally came home after 56 years of hurt, Formula 1 was always likely to play second fiddle in England – we even interrupted our regular post-race reaction to congratulate the England Ladies on their remarkable achievement - so for anyone who celebrated a little too hard and doesn’t remember what happened in the Hungarian Grand Prix, let us provide a recap.
But not from us, oh no… from yourselves. Despite the brilliance going on at Wembley, you still managed to show up on social media throughout the weekend, telling the story better than we ever could. Here's what you made of it all…
If you're anything like us, then those of you travelling to Budapest would have set aside some time to explore the capital city and everything it has to offer.
Thanks for the welcome, Hungarian team papaya!
Lando and Daniel caught the eye on Thursday, turning the paddock into a runway with some… unique items of clothing.
How would you rate their fit?
It was brilliant to see so many of you at the track decked out in papaya.
This is wild.
In fairness, Zak is part of the MTCU (McLaren Technology Centre Universe).
And just like our favourite MCU superheroes, Lando and Daniel were flying, with some impressive performances in practice on a sunny Friday, notching four top 10 finishes, including P2 for Lando in FP2.
Saturday wasn't quite so sunny. And by "quite," we mean it poured it down.
Sarcasm?
Thankfully not, @AndyRobinson100.
Right, time to set some fast laps... But only after a choccy milkshake, of course.
Thankfully, the track had largely dried by the time qualifying came around. Lando hooked up an excellent tour of the Hungaroring to overdeliver on expectations, finishing P4, whilst Daniel took P9.
That's one cheesy grin.
There was plenty of papaya at the track, but what about those of you not in Hungary, where were you watching from?
We hope you found signal, @Aimee_J_!
We're not crying, you are.
We know we say this every week, but it's crazy how quickly race day comes around.
Where can we get some McLarenails!?
Nice ink, @i99NORRIS.
*Behind the scenes* footage of DR passing the two Alpine's…
I think we all enjoyed that one, didn't we?
Unfortunately, that's as good as it got for DR, as contact with Lance Stroll after his pit-stop resulted in a five second time penalty and dropped him to 15th at the flag. Lando managed to maintain seventh following his set of stops, only behind the big six, with Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari taking up the front six places.
After months of hard work and effort, it's finally time for a bit of a break. School's out and we're ready to hit the beach for a well-earned rest-up. But don't worry, we'll be back stronger before you know it, primed to attack the second half of the season and show you exactly what we've got.
Hang on, no F1 for a whole month?!
We'll miss seeing your glorious faces at the track while we're away, but don't worry, only 25 sleeps to wait until F1 returns.
