|Where||Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya|
|When||10 - 12 May|
|Start time||15:10 local, 14:10 BST|
Carlos Sainz #55
“I’m so excited for my home race. It’s always such a special occasion and I can’t wait to see all the fans in the Circuit and especially those in my grandstand, I’m looking forward to seeing it in full papaya!
“It was great to get some good points on the board in Baku. We knew the pace was there and it was a matter of being patient and working hard. Now my target is to add to that tally in front of my home crowd and throughout the upcoming European season. We cannot let ourselves get carried away by a good result in Baku, so we’ll keep pushing hard.”
Lando Norris #4
“I’m looking forward to starting the European season; there are a few circuits coming up that I’ve raced at before, including Barcelona. Racing at tracks I know helps me hit the ground running when preparing for the weekend. It only feels like yesterday that we were in Spain for pre-season testing.
“Heading back to where we first tested the car should give us a good indication of the car’s performance and the areas we need to improve. It’s also good to have the Brand Centre back for the European races, it really adds to the atmosphere in the paddock.”
Andreas Seidl, Team Principal
“I’m delighted to have now started at McLaren and I’ve had a really warm welcome from everyone in the team. During my first few days I’ve been speaking to as many people around the factory as possible and this will continue over coming weeks as I get to know the team.
“In Spain we’ll look to build on the performance shown in the first few races, however we know the field is extremely tightly-packed. The start of the European season is traditionally where teams bring upgrades, so it’s hard to say where the grid will line up this weekend, but we will continue to focus on developing our package and improve the car in key areas.
"As always, the objective during the weekend will be on ensuring strategy, operations and reliability are as strong as they can be.”

Spotlight: José Cabanas
The spotlight is rarely shone on the team at the factory – but the contribution is no more and no less important. While a rapid pit-stop, bold overtaking move or decisive strategy call earn the plaudits, successes are just as dependent on engineering an upgrade in record time, manufacturing high-quality components, and carrying out stringent analysis and simulation. Every part of the operation needs to work in harmony to see progress on a race weekend. This is the ultimate team sport.
Not only do we want to shine the spotlight on our factory, but our partners and fans also enable us to go racing. We spoke to our partner Estrella Galicia 0,0 to find out more about their team members.
We are a team together. And these are some of the stories.
When did you start working at Hijos de Rivera?
I started at Hijos de Rivera 14 years ago. At that stage, the company was a local brewery, as craft as today, with a small local market close to our origins here in northwest Spain, Galicia. Today, still family owned, independent, and with more than a century of brewing heritage, our aim sticks to the same values that gave birth to the company in 1906: to become the most loved beer.
What do you love about your job as Chief Marketing Officer?
When you have the chance to work with a high-quality product, bringing a brand into the market by sharing its DNA to prospects and consumers definitely makes the role of CMO, a great and exciting challenge.
This means that my job has to be fully-focused on making sure that our philosophy is showcased genuinely to our stakeholders rather than sticking to a marketing-push approach purely driven by sales.
We put lots of efforts on building unbeatable experiences linked to our products, collecting feedback from our clients, contributing to improve them continuously. And that’s exactly what I most love from my job, sharing our way of bringing our brands, products, partners and values to life.
McLaren and Estrella Galicia 0,0 share the same values of quality, craft and heritage. Is this what attracted you to collaborate with the team?
No doubt that's the baseline. And those values played a role in the first approach. But beyond that, there is one component that makes the difference and we both share: people. Despite all KPI’s on quality, both companies’ heritage, know-how... whatever you name it, we need to make it happen, to play it. And we both, McLaren and Estrella Galicia teams have people inside that make things happen.
Both looking for excellence in what we do and spreading passion and creativity on how we face challenges. This approach acts like a glue and is a huge facilitator in order to leverage the partnership to the next level.
What is your favorite McLaren memory?
Ayrton Senna. Not only a memory, but an attitude towards life. I was still a kid but I can remember that fury and passion every Sunday!
What will you be raising a glass to at the Spanish GP?
Surely this will be for Carlos, Lando, and the team progressing and moving forward, that's the most important thing.
Also, this round marks the start of our client experience around the Brand Centre, where we propose an exciting journey through our beer culture and F1 racing and is one of our key activations of the season.
On top of that, if we can also celebrate a great result…beer is on us!
Why are you proud to display your logo on the McLaren MCL34?
In 2010, when we decided to jump into national and international marketplace, this partnership would have been a dream come true inside the company. Today, only nine years later, we are in the best worldwide communication platform, with the best partner we could ever thought.
Sharing values, mentality, savoir faire, and building our dream together of becoming top amongst competitors.
