Lewis’s highlight
Canadian Grand Prix (70 laps), Circuit Gilles Villeneuve – June 10 2012
Second on the grid, but pitted against the collective muscle of key rivals Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber, Lewis keeps his head to take a brilliant strategic victory. He maximises his two-stop strategy to pass the one-stopping Ferrari of Alonso for the lead in the closing laps. The win sees him become the seventh different winner of 2012
Lewis looks back
“This race was always going to be a two-stop strategy for us. It was a great call by the team – on paper, it was always the fastest way to the finish and we were surprised when the others opted to one-stop. After my second stop, it looked like a big ask, but it soon became clear that the pace from the fresh tyres was just phenomenal and I was easily able to catch and pass the two cars ahead of me.
“This win made it a hat-trick in Canada for me. It’s always been one of my favourite venues on the calendar – the crowd has always been amazing, and I was incredibly proud to win in Montreal again.”
