From cap to helmet: Why the New Era logo will adorn our helmets

The next era of our New Era partnership has begun

New Era

Lando and Oscar will be wearing New Era on and off-track starting in the 2024 season, with the iconic headwear brand expanding from caps to our race helmets.

New Era’s logo will appear on Lando and Oscar’s helmets this season, eight years on from when New Era first became our Official Headwear Partner in 2015.

In the seasons since, New Era have released a huge array of McLaren-themed caps, worn by Lando, Oscar, our previous drivers, the team, and McLaren fans worldwide in a range of styles, from the 9FORTY Trucker A-Frame, 9FORTY Snapback, 9FIFTY and Bucket Hat silhouettes, with special releases for landmark races, including the Miami, Monaco, British and US Grands Prix.

And now, after eight years of our speedmark appearing on their caps, the New Era logo will appear on Lando and Oscar’s helmets.

New Era

“New Era’s roots in the sports world run deep. For nearly a century, we’ve provided caps that combine style with performance worn both during games and on the sidelines,” said Chris Koch, New Era CEO.

“As McLaren Racing’s Official Headwear Partner, we’ve been able to provide that same level of style and authenticity to an iconic Formula 1 team. To now see the New Era flag adorn the helmets of McLaren’s F1 roster brings a new level of excitement to our longest-running F1 partnership.”

Louise McEwen, Executive Director, Brand & Marketing, McLaren Racing added: “We’re delighted to extend our partnership with New Era. Our headwear has always been a fan-favourite, so it's fantastic that we will continue to excite our fans and launch some bold and iconic ranges to help them celebrate key season milestones alongside us.”

New Era Official Headwear Partner

New Era has been hand-crafting headwear for more than 100 years. First established in 1920, the Buffalo, N.Y.- based outfitter has expanded its global reach, added new apparel and accessories to its expansive cap portfolio, and grown to become a market leader rooted in sports and an influencer of street and lifestyle culture around the world.

New Era caps have become a staple of the Formula 1 paddock and the grandstands, with our drivers and the Papaya Army donning the various styles and colourways at every race. In 2024, they’ll be continuing to produce a wide array of McLaren-themed headwear, with several special drops throughout the year.

“New Era and McLaren Racing share a common passion for sport, creativity, and innovation,” Koch said. “That’s what brought us together in 2015, and it’s what drives us to continue exploring new opportunities through our collaboration.”
