All at McLaren pay tribute to our employee, Steve Morrow who has sadly passed away.

Many of our current and former team members have fond memories of Steve, whose nickname ‘Forklift’ came from his great strength.

From the early days of the TAG Porsche association, he drove the TAG engine truck by himself across Europe – something it was said he loved doing. He would transport engines between Porsche, the circuits and McLaren.

Neil Trundle shares some McLaren memories of Steve:

“When I first travelled on the team in 1988 and 1989, he was the tyre man at the track dealing with the logistics of many different compounds, and he never made a mistake and was always calm.

“Then came the re-fuelling era and he was the No 1 hose man in all the fire gear. We have many photos and film of him carrying out this challenging job sometimes in extreme hot weather without complaint. He famously was dragged along when the driver exited too soon and all he did was put his thumbs up from the floor to usher the car to go.”

Towards the latter end of his career, Steve became a truck driver for the transport department, and then as his illness took hold, he handled the goods in and out dept.

A man of few words but a great character, Steve Morrow. RIP.
