From local activations, movies and restaurants, plenty is happening in Indianapolis and your community to experience Black History Month

During the month of February, Arrow McLaren wants to embrace an important opportunity to celebrate and honor Black History Month. This month serves as a timely reminder of the countless contributions, achievements, and resilience of Black individuals throughout history, including in the dynamic world of motorsport.

From pioneering drivers like Wendell Scott, who became the first Black man to win a NASCAR premier series race in 1963, to trailblazers like Willy T. Ribbs, who shattered stereotypes and barriers in the world of INDYCAR and sports car racing, the contributions of Black men—and women—to motorsport are profound and enduring.

As we commemorate Black History Month, we believe it's crucial, not only to recognize this month, but to also actively educate ourselves to support the Black community and our colleagues. Here are a few ways we can do so together this month and beyond:

Support Black-owned businesses: Make a point of spending your money at a local, Black-owned business. Indianapolis has some incredible Black-owned restaurants, whether you’re looking for a BBQ joint or vegan eatery. Here is a comprehensive list.

Watch Black stories: Stream a show or movie centered on Black history, stories and voices – whether it’s a documentary, comedy or action. We recommend the following:

Titles of Black Stories Streaming Platform
13th Netflix
Hidden Figures Disney+
Watchmen Max
Uppity: The Willy T. Ribbs Story Tubi
Self Made: Inspired by the life of Madam C.J. Walker Netflix
