René Rast joined the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team with a wealth of experience under his belt, spanning various areas of motorsport competition. He began his career competing in karting and Formula BMW, before entering touring car racing, where he won Porsche Carrera Cup Germany in 2008 and 2012, and Porsche Supercup from 2010 to 2012. René also competed at the ADAC GT Masters from 2010 to 2014, winning the title in his last year.
Additionally, René has experience in endurance racing, winning the 24 Hours of Daytona GT class in 2012 and the GTD class in 2016. He has also won the 2012 and 2014 24 Hours of Spa and the 2014 24h Nürburgring as well as competing in the GT Series, Blancpain Sprint Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which he finished in second in 2016.
In 2017, René competed in DTM, winning the title in his first full season in the series, before winning the championship twice more in 2019 and 2020. He then returned to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the 2022 season.
René debuted in Formula E for the Berlin E-Prix in 2016. He then returned to the series for the final six races of Season 6, before joining the series permanently for Season 7.
After a year out of the championship, René returned to Formula E with McLaren from Season 9, finishing 13th in the driver standings.
