Gaming guru and sim driver Rudy van Buren blogs about his month
Time flies when you're having fun, and so did the month of May.
Where the last few words of the previous sentence makes most race-fans think about the Indy 500, for me it was time to be back in the sim!
My simulator work for the week was split into two parts – half of my time was spent working on sim development, with the other half spent on correlation work to help the team with the in-season test over in Barcelona.
Both days went according to plan, and it was pure joy to be back behind the wheel. In previous blogs, I mentioned how much time I spent listening to our drivers’ feedback and how they handled certain situations in the sim. That feedback has really helped towards my development, and I feel like I’m progressing well.
Like any other professional driver, my time seems to be split between racing, media and marketing activities, which is a great experience.
One of these media activities was a TV interview with Dutch broadcaster, ‘NOS Studio Sport’ to talk about esports, and the ‘real world’ racing opportunities that lay ahead of me thanks to my role at McLaren. The recording took place at Van Amersfoort Racing, a Dutch F3 team. It was cool to see how a different team operates.
Also, this month, I also worked on my home sim-setup, which included a PC upgrade to accompany my Logitech steering wheel and pedals. This has allowed me to stream more effectively on YouTube and Twitch.
