The Bahrain Grand Prix according to social media

Poetry, fit checks, and dinner discussions: Bahrain's best tweets

Bahrain treated the world to its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in three months on Saturday, and the Sakhir desert delivered on its promise of sand, side-by-sides, and sunsets as Lando and Oscar sealed our first season-opening double-points finish in three years.

Round 1 produced its fair share of drama, but we kept our visors' clean and pulled off a calm and composed performance to seal sixth and eighth, meaning we’ll be taking a healthy 12-point haul into the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

In the grandstands and on social media, the Papaya Army were anything but calm and composed, celebrating the return of racing with the usual dose of excitement, passion and memes. We’ve sieved through the best of it in our social media round up. Here’s what you made of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Time to make some memories.

The tweet we’ve all been waiting for: The #McNailArtChallenge is back.

We can sob together, @norris4mo.

Leave it with us.

With great power, comes great responsibility.

Confused but excited.

Let’s go get it.

We’re just psyching ourselves up, Laura, don’t worry… No shyness in the McLaren garage.

Been busy in the kitchen over winter.

Luckily, the MCL38 is out of this world.

Great to have you along for the ride, Papaya Army.

Bursting with papaya pride. What a difference 12 months makes! Double Q3 to kick off the year.

Felt good to get back out there and stretch our wheels.

New season, new merch, new profile photos.

Lando, obviously.

This was adorable. Thanks for your continued support, Laura! We hope you had an amazing birthday.

We all have that bestie who approves our outfits.

Probably talking about what they’ll have for dinner.

All of us at 14:55 GMT.

Ready to race!

MCL38, meet the starting grid. Starting grid, meet the MCL38 – you’re about to become the best of friends. (P.S., roughly 220mph, if you were wondering).

Starting as we mean to go on.

Poetry in motion.

Solid start, team! Great racing from Lando and Oscar, and a great shift from the team in the garage and back at the MTC to finish P6 and P8.

You got close? We were kitted up in the garage with a coffee wondering where everyone was!

“She's a runner, she's a track staaarrr.”

You're a legend, you're a legend, you're all legends!

Plenty to build on. Bring on Saudi.
