The Singapore Grand Prix according to social media
Well, that was exciting, wasn't it?
We've been burning the midnight oil going through all of your tweets following a brilliant performance and thoroughly entertaining Singapore Grand Prix. Did we need to stay up all night sieving through your social media reaction? No. Did we want to? Damn straight.
You already know how we feel, but what did you make of our double-points finish and highest-scoring round of the season? Here's what we learned from our overnight social media binge…
By now, you'll be well-versed in our fondness for sightseeing, and after three years away from Singapore, we were overdue a wander around Marina Bay. Visiting for only the second time in his life, Lando joined us on the exploration, equipped with his trusty new camera.
If nothing else, it gave you all a new wallpaper, although we're not quite sure he intended to be the subject when purchasing a camera.
For fans of Halo, who else would love to see Lando play Master Chief?
Sorry, but the jury's out on this one, @EsMiOpin.
Logitec G approve.
Lando's Halo-themed lid arrived at the perfect time, with a video game style Cyberpunk-inspired OKX livery on the car for Singapore and Japan.
Speaking of which…
Did anyone else try out the matching Instagram filter?
If you're anything like us, then the debut of new wardrobe is a nervous time, but thankfully, ours went down a treat.
The helmet swap we never knew we needed.
Glad to see that Jon agrees.
Anyway, back to the story. Where were we? Oh yes, Singapore.
Are you sitting comfortably?
The weather needed to make its mind up... but thanks for being our Singapore Meteorologist, @syck_review.
At least Team Papaya were prepared.
As well as sightseeing, we used some of our spare time in Singapore to catch up with friends.
Anyone else know that Animal from Sesame Street went on to do a Social Media degree?
New kids on the track? DRS? Take Track? F1 Direction? Pit Stop Boys?
What about Motörhead? Wait, is that cheating?
Debut single "My heart will Grosjean" out soon.
Okay we'll stop… Qualifying under the lights was up next and we were raring to go.
Who moves house during a Formula 1 weekend? Seems like poor planning, @Sareyware.
Daniel was unable to make it out of Q1, but Lando battled on and into Q3, finishing sixth after a superb lap on a drying track.
You know what's up next, right? It was time to find out where you were watching from.
And what about those of you at the circuit, where had you perched your bums?
We thought it felt like we were being watched.
Weather update: Still wet. Very, very wet.
When we asked the weather to make its mind up, we were hoping for less rain, not more.
But thankfully no amount of rain could dampen your spirits.
The race start was delayed by just over an hour, meaning we had some time to kill. Game of catch, anyone?
Come on, who else saw this coming?
Both drivers got a solid start when the lights did go out, with Lando launching off the line and ahead of Alonso for fifth and Daniel making up three places to 13th.
They continued making moves, as Daniel broke into the top 10 and Lando gained fourth following an error from Lewis Hamilton. Like you, we were on the edge of our seats.
Some clever strategy calls from the team, a well-timed Safety Car and some heroic driving earned us fourth and fifth at the flag, with Lando finishing directly ahead of Daniel, securing our highest points haul of the season.
We're all McLaren, aren't we.
From 16th to fifth – surely there's only one winner?
Bold of you to assume they're not?
So many emotions.
That was mighty tough – we need a lie-down.
Time to get some rest before we burn the candle at both ends.
We'll be trekking across Asia over the next few days making the 3,200+ mile trip to Suzuka in Japan, and we'll need all the energy we can get. We can't wait to see you all there!
