That was the weekend that was

The Dutch Grand Prix according to social media

Orange isn't a colour, it's a lifestyle. If nothing else, the Dutch Grand Prix served to reiterate this long-held belief, and although not every shade of orange matched our papaya, plenty of it did. Amongst the feverish Dutch support, you made yourselves heard, carrying the McLaren baton proudly.

On the track, it was another tricky weekend, with the tight twists and turns of the circuit proving difficult to overtake on, even in the new iteration of Formula 1 cars. But off track, you made it as unforgettable as ever.

So for that reason, it's only right we let you tell the story of the Dutch Grand Prix. Here's what you made of it on social media…

Stroopwafels are very much a year-round snack, but having been born in the Netherlands, this weekend more than any other was unsurprisingly stroopwafel central, and it didn't take Daniel long to snuff some out.

Not that he was short of offers had he not found the truck in the paddock…

Don't worry, we'd never steal stroopwafel from a fan… Would we?

Stroopy-o'clock never stops.

Don't know about you, but we're suddenly very hungry.

The only thing there was more of in Zandvoort than stroopwafles was orange clothing. Almost all of it for us, right?

We couldn't possibly comment, @Sareyware.

Some of you opted to stand out, showing your support for McLaren with other colours.

Including one passionate papaya fan who really went the extra mile.

Nice work from those of you who smashed our latest pop quiz… We might need to start making these harder?

Saturday marked four wonderful years since we confirmed Lando as an F1 driver with the team.

It was lovely to see an old friend in the garage on Saturday. Juan Pablo Montoya's son Sebastian made his Formula 3 debut in Zandvoort on Sunday. His father was in the Netherlands to support him and managed to find the time to pay us a visit on the other side of the fence.

We were expecting a show of Dutch courage in Zandvoort, but we weren't imagining it would come from the pigeons, who not only intercepted the track, but then refused to leave despite oncoming traffic. The cars might have been flying, but the pigeons certainly weren't.

No matter how hard the stewards tried, no one could 'catch the pigeon'.

@jameshify's furry friend had seen how much fun the pigeons were having and decided they wanted a slice of the action – but thankfully took a much safer approach.

After three solid practice sessions, which included five top 10 finishes, it was time to build on what we had learned. Meanwhile, @HeyDonnaLouise was planning to do some building of her own.

Time to set some fast laps.

Lando made it through to Q3 and finished seventh, qualifying exactly where he had predicted at the start of the day. His mystical abilities truly know no bounds.

Like @hygienistdirect, we had a few jobs to do on Sunday morning before we could enjoy the race – warming up, diving through the data and parading the track amongst them.

Best we had a good, hearty breakfast then… Or, like @AndyRobinson100, we could just have more stroopwafles and some pancakes.

Or some cake... @OfficialUonii's creation looks mighty delicious.

Might have been a bit early for a drink in Zandvoort, though.

But before any of that, we'd have to navigate our way from the hotel to the circuit amid some tricky conditions.

Scarily accurate, @Connor_Bangtan.

These two had the right idea.

Why so does that look so familiar? Oh yes, we know!

At least we were able to spend the journey scrolling through your messages of support.

We hope those two are old enough to drive. And not just in dog years.

Overtaking was expectedly tough around the tight turns of Zandvoort, with both Lando and Daniel finishing where they started, but we had fun along the way and brought back some valuable points.

Atleast we made fans of the pigeons.

It might not have been the weekend we’d hoped for, but it's the Italian Grand Prix up next and with that comes plenty of happy memories and a chance for some Monza magic.

Can we come too?

Hmmm, we wonder, @OfficialSha, we wonder.

Next stop, Monza. We'll see you there team papaya.
