‘Best of the rest’ is kindly meant but it isn’t a representation that sits particularly comfortably walking past the trophy cabinet on the Boulevard. It is, nevertheless, the situation in F1 at the moment and McLaren’s realistic goal for the season is to finish fourth in the Constructors’ Championship.
The team went to the British GP having been best of the rest in the previous two races. Silverstone wasn’t particularly a circuit that suited the MCL34, but the team toughed it out, and came away with an excellent sixth place for Carlos and a slightly improved hold on that fourth place in the standings.
