ReLIVE the Malaysian GP
McLaren LIVE took fans into the heart of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes garage throughout the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix, with live radio chat, telemetry and timing information relayed to you as it happened. ReLIVE the action as it unfolded:
On the Grid
Jenson radio talk: “Warm the brakes please Jenson. Confirming all cars are on Inter, all cars are on Inter.”
The grid forms up. Ready to go. The last cars forming up now.
Race start
The Malaysian Grand Prix is go! The start-finish straight looked dry, but huge plumes of water as the cars reached turn one.
ALO out after contact with WEB. Jenson up to P4, Checo P7.
Sector two is the critical part of the circuit. The guys on dries are losing places.
Jenson radio talk: “Box this lap please Jenson. Box for the Option.”
Double shuffle pitstop, Jenson and Checo both in and out, swapping Inters for the Option tyre. Fast work. Smiles in the garage after an unexpected twist.
Lap 10
The order with ten laps completed is: WEB, VET, HAM, ROS, Jenson, HUL, MAS, Checo, GRO, RAI. The field is still bunched, with tight battles up and down the order. Jenson is 0.7s ahead of HUL, Checo 0.5s ahead of RAI.
Lots of purple (fastest) and green (personal best) sector times going up on the timing screens as the track becomes properly dry.
Jenson radio talk: “How's the pace guys?”
Jenson radio talk: “The pace is good. You're pulling away from HUL. ROS is the car in front.”
Lap 18
Jenson radio talk: “How many laps have we done on this tyre?”
Jenson radio talk: “We've done ten laps Jenson.”
Sector one pace is good. A few tenths to find in sector two, sector three is good.
Jenson radio talk: “Who's behind HUL?”
Jenson radio talk: “MAS and GRO behind HUL.”
Jenson radio talk: “OK Jenson, push now, push now, we are box this lap.”
Jenson comes in and swaps to another set of Option tyres.
Checo radio talk: “OK Checo, suggest box this lap. We will be racing cars out of the pitlane, use KERS on the exit.”
Lap 29
At the halfway point the order has settled down: WEB leads from VET, HAM, ROS, Jenson, MAS, GRO, HUL, RAI, Checo.
Checo setting purple times and now chasing down RAI hard in the battle for P9.
Lap 33
Checo radio talk: “Lap 33: OK Checo, box this lap, confirm.”
Jenson radio talk: “Let's push now, we're going to be racing cars on their way out.”
Jenson radio talk: “OK Jenson, box this lap.”
Jenson stops in the pitlane with a loose front right wheel.
Jenson radio talk: “Engine off, we need you back in the box, we'll restart the engine.”
Lap 37
On lap 37, Jenson fires up and leaves the pit box. Time lost recovering the car and fixing the loose wheel.
Jenson back out in P14. 30s behind RIC in P13.
Lap 39
On Lap 39 Checo right on the tail of GRO, battling hard for P6.
The order on Lap 40: WEB leads by 4s from VET, HAM, ROS, MAS, GRO, Checo, HUL, RAI, BOT. Jenson P14.

Lap 46
Checo radio talk: “Lap 46. 10 laps to go Checo. RAI behind.”
Jenson radio talk: “OK Jenson, you are currently P14. Points are just a few seconds up the road, let's have a bit of fun and try to get a point.”
Checo loses P7 to RAI.
Lap 50
The order on lap 50: VET leads from WEB, HAM, ROS, GRO, MAS, RAI, Checo, HUL, GUT. Jenson now P13 and catching BOT ahead.
Jenson radio talk: “JB you need to retire the car. Box this lap, box this lap. Watch for VET.”
Jenson radio talk: “Sorry about that, that was a great drive.”
Checo radio talk: “Box this lap, you won't lost places and we'll protect against punctures.”
Checo takes on a precautionary set of Prime tyres for the last lap.
Checo radio talk: “You have a good gap to the car behind you.”
Chequered flag
VET wins the Malaysian Grand Prix from WEB, HAM, ROS, MAS, GRO, RAI, HUL, Checo, VER.
Checo radio talk: “You finished P9. Not where we wanted to be but you set the fastest lap of the race at the end. Good job.”
The crowd applauds the cars back into Parc Ferme after a great race. Good points for Checo and cruel luck for Jenson with a pit problem.
