On the grid
At the moment the radar is clear. The track looks a little slippery, though from their out-lap the drivers say it's dry.
Checo lines up eighth on the grid and Jenson is ninth.
Jenson radio talk: "OK Jenson, radio check."
Monza goes silent, throttle up… go go go!
Race start
Standby, looks like Checo's been hit!
Checo radio talk: "Checo, please confirm, how is the car? Any damage?"
Checo continues past the pits, his car is OK. He is P8, Jenson P11 after the jostling at the first chicane.
Lap 5
Checo P8, Jenson P11. The order is VET, MAS, ALO, WEB, HUL, ROS, RIC, Checo, VER, HAM, Jenson.
Jenson makes it through at the Ascari chicane, passing HAM for P10. Round of applause in the garage.
Lap 10
Checo P8, Jenson P10 at Monza. VET leads from ALO, MAS, WEB, HUL, ROS, RIC, Checo, VER, Jenson.
Checo radio talk: "Checo, current pace looks good, let's see if we can put some pressure on the cars in front as the stint goes on."
Lap 13
Jenson is reeling in VER, gaining a tenth a lap since passing HAM and now battling hard to take P9.
Checo radio talk: "OK Checo, pace looks good, tyres look good from here."
It's an incredibly bunched race at Monza. Except the leader, every car has a rival within two seconds.
Lap 19
Checo is now 0.5s behind RIC, Jenson is 3s further back, 0.8s ahead of GRO.
Checo P8, Jenson P9.
Jenson pits and takes on the Prime tyre. 31 laps of the Italian Grand Prix to go.
Lap 23
Checo comes in for his stop, takes on the Prime tyre and rejoins just behind Jenson. They are P14 and P15 with others still to stop.
The trickle of cars into the pits has turned into a torrent with most of the cars starting on Options now taking on Prime tyres.
Lap 27
Jenson's advantage over Checo is just 0.7s. He has RIC 0.6s in front.
Jenson P10, Checo P11. VET leads the Italian Grand Prix from ALO, WEB, MAS, RAI, HUL, ROS, HAM, RIC, Jenson, Checo.
Jenson moves up to P9 and Checo P10 as RAI pits for a second time.
Checo radio talk: "Checo, GRO is the car behind, gaining about half a second per lap."
Jenson and Checo are first in the queue that's forming behind RIC - he's holding them up but has strong top speed to counteract DRS.
Lap 38
Checo loses out to GRO at the first chicane. He keeps P10 as HAM pits. Jenson up to P8.
Lap 40
Jenson P8, Checo P10. VET leads the Italian Grand Prix from ALO, WEB, MAS, HUL, ROS, RIC, Jenson, GRO, Checo. 13 to go.
The radar shows showers around Monza but nothing that's going to hit the circuit before the end of the race.
Checo radio talk: "I lost a lot of time behind the Marussia!"
Lap 44
Checo radio talk: "Six laps to go, there is a backmarker ahead, there may be another opportunity when we go past him."
Closing stages...
With four laps to go, the battle for P9 is compelling. Jenson leads Checo by 0.3s while HAM and RAI on newer tyres are closing up.
Checo loses P10 to HAM at the first chicane.
Checo radio talk: "Checo, car behind is RAI, three laps to go, let's give it everything, see if we can get some points."
HAM repeats his move one lap later and passes Jenson for P9. No defence for Jenson against the newer, softer tyres.
RAI passes Checo for P11.
Chequered flag
At the chequered flag, Jenson P10, Checo P12. VET wins the Italian Grand Prix, from ALO, WEB, MAS, HUL, ROS, RIC, GRO, HAM, Jenson.
