McLaren sponsors 2016 STEM Awards innovation category

McLaren is proud to announce its sponsorship of the 2016 Telegraph STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) Awards category for innovation.

Now into their third year, the awards are back to inspire undergraduates to pursue STEM careers that form a vital part of the UK’s economic lifeblood.

The STEM Awards provide a unique opportunity for talented students to present their ideas to some of the most influential companies across five industry sectors – innovation, healthcare (sponsored by McLaren Partner GSK), aerospace, energy and design.

With the development of automated and connected vehicles, McLaren is asking students to propose ideas to enhance the human passenger experience and performance management of road, air and sea transportation.

The winner of each of the individual categories will then compete to be crowned overall UK STEM Awards winner and receive a grand prize of £25,000 at the final to be held next summer.

Judging the McLaren sponsored innovation category will be Richard Farquhar, head of powertrain at McLaren Automotive, and Ian Rhodes, chief executive officer at McLaren Applied Technologies.

After the closing date of 15 February 2016, both McLaren judges will shortlist the top five entries from the innovation category based on the most creative, innovative and fine-tuned ideas.

Those who make it through Richard and Ian's expert scrutiny will then be invited to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking to present their ideas.

The launch of McLaren’s involvement in the 2016 Telegraph STEM Awards is part of a long-term commitment to encouraging STEM subject uptake that includes a network of McLaren STEM Ambassadors who regularly visit schools, colleges and science fairs.
