Murray to spearhead continued rapid growth

McLaren Group has appointed Anthony Murray as the new Chief Executive Officer of its McLaren Applied Technologies division. McLaren Applied Technologies operates at the forefront of innovation and technology, delivering performance advantage to businesses and organisations in sectors ranging from health to public transport.

Murray comes to McLaren after almost four years as a senior executive at Qualcomm, where he was most recently senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Voice and Music Business Unit, having previously held the same role at its Internet of Things Business Unit.

Prior to Qualcomm, Murray spent more than 14 years in various roles at Cambridge Silicon Radio plc, rising to senior vice president at the multinational semiconductor company, which was acquired by Qualcomm in August 2015. In that time, he has been consistently involved in building and scaling small to large businesses in highly relevant industry sectors and product sets, ranging from automotive, consumer electronics and health, and IoT, wearables, smart city, smart home, smart meters, virtual reality, voice, and audio.

Jonathan Neale, Group Chief Operating Officer, McLaren, commented:

"This is a significant appointment for McLaren Applied Technologies and the Group. We have taken the appropriate time and care to find the right person to lead this strategically important part of McLaren and spearhead the next phase of its development. McLaren Applied Technologies has doubled in size over the past five years and will be a major growth engine for McLaren Group for the future.

"I am delighted Anthony has decided to join us. He has considerable business acumen and expertise, twinned with broad market knowledge in priority industry sectors. I look forward to him joining the senior executive team of Zak Brown [CEO, McLaren Racing], Mike Flewitt, [CEO, McLaren Automotive] and myself to help lead McLaren and advise our executive chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa on the future growth of the brand and organisation.

"Finally, I wish to thank our first-class management team at McLaren Applied Technologies, led by Dick Glover, who have brought the business to where it stands today, in a position of strength and poised for rapid growth. Dick has contributed significantly to McLaren over 24 valuable years and has decided to step down having served the company in senior roles in Racing, Automotive and Applied Technologies to make time to pursue other interests."

Anthony Murray commented:

"I am thrilled to be joining McLaren Applied Technologies, which combines my passion for motorsport and leading-edge technology. Coming from the semiconductor industry, where I was involved in creating the foundational technology that powers many of the latest consumer products, I know first-hand that this is an extremely exciting time in this industry.

"Markets are currently undergoing significant change as connectivity improves, devices are becoming more powerful while at the same time smaller and more efficient, and machines are becoming more intelligent and autonomous. As part of the McLaren team, I look forward to leveraging the amazing engineering talent together with the internal innovation and knowhow to further shape and transform key industries in a positive way while upholding the McLaren brand of performance and reliability."
