Take one company with decades of cutting-edge simulation and modelling experience from Formula 1. Take another with deep industry knowledge and access to markets around the world. And bring them together to create digital twin-enabled products for clients which transforms the way they operate to drive better performance and competitive advantage.
It all sounds so easy, but I can assure you it's not. Endless hours of hard work take place at McLaren and Deloitte to build scalable products that have the power to change businesses and disrupt markets.
Authenticity borne from the track
The McLaren brand is multi-faceted and steeped in history. Decades of Formula 1 experience is a key differentiator that allows us to authentically articulate the strength of our simulation and modelling capability. We run hundreds of thousands of scenario simulations every second to perform on the track in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of Formula 1 and now we're doing the same in industries beyond motorsport.
Our decision insight portfolio team lies at the very heart of the McLaren Deloitte alliance and is focused on creating digital copies of businesses to generate the insight needed to extract the maximum performance from their high value assets. Many businesses have a wealth of data which they are able to visualise, but we take that data and build a digital twin of a business to test millions of potential scenarios and empower it to make the right decisions at the right time to improve operations.
Examples of the solutions which draw upon the alliance’s decision insight capability and sit within its product portfolio are ANSP Performance Optimiser and SupplyCycle:
ANSP Performance Optimiser
ANSP Performance Optimiser is designed to support Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) and Supervisors, as well as the wider operations teams at Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), by enabling them to understand and quantify the impact of operational decisions taken in a dynamic and constantly evolving airport environment.
Through accurately predicting the impact of a range of tactical decisions, the tool allows operations teams to run "what-if" scenarios and understand how well they performed, and how they could have done better.
The product is a world-first with no other comparable solutions in the aviation space and is of particular value in regions characterised by constrained capacity and increasing demand, where improving operational performance is imperative.
Most manufacturers use inventory and production capacity to buffer uncertainty, but as stock keeping units (SKUs) increase, the challenge faced throughout the industry is to maintain efficiency and keep inventory low. Traditionally, driving improvements in one means making sacrifices in the other, but SupplyCycle changes the game by making it possible to jointly optimise inventory and production capacity.
SupplyCycle helps manufacturers balance the sequence and frequency of production with statistically-set inventory levels to increase efficiency, lower inventory, unlock 'hidden' capacity by reducing production changeover duration and occurrence, and bring stability to the supply chain.
It draws upon McLaren Applied Technologies' Formula 1-grade analytics to make end-to-end trade-offs, run robust optimisation and simulations, manage capacity proactively, and model scenarios to test sensitivities.
Who are we looking for?
So now you've got a taste of what we can do and the type of game-changing products the decision insight portfolio team has developed, but to whet your appetite even further just why should talented software engineers, data scientists and simulation engineers join McLaren Applied Technologies to work as part of the alliance?
Firstly, don't be fooled into thinking you must come from a motorsport background. Naturally, we have people with Formula 1 and motorsport experience given our heritage, but our teams are made up of people from a host of different areas such as technology, aviation, healthcare and consulting.
What matters most is attitude. Are you comfortable working in a dynamic and evolving environment? Can you think on your feet and adapt quickly to changing situations? Do you want to play a key role in helping shape, define and build the McLaren Deloitte alliance? If your answer is yes to all these questions, then you will thrive here.
Diversity of experience is important at McLaren Applied Technologies, and that extends into the McLaren Deloitte alliance. Spending several years focused solely on one project is highly unlikely. For example, you may work on a project in the healthcare space for several months and then move onto a transport-oriented product.
Furthermore, the alliance embraces creativity. We encourage our people to put forward fresh ideas and new ways of working. If we see value in a project we’ll give you time to explore it, develop it, even lead the project and have significant influence on how you solve that problem with the team.
Every day's a school day
Joining McLaren Applied Technologies provides the chance to collaborate with highly intelligent and driven people, and that's no different within the McLaren Deloitte alliance. However, instead of solely collaborating with colleagues from McLaren, you also work hand in hand with colleagues at Deloitte to develop solutions for our clients located around the world.
The exposure to not one, but two cutting-edge companies, presents the opportunity for accelerated learning and growth, and this applies to both the alliance and those working within it. Everyone has an important role to play and is challenged to push boundaries that will see them reach their full potential.
Ultimately, that's what makes being part of this alliance so enjoyable: working in an inspiring environment, surrounded by ambitious people who are team players with the ability to work across cultures and determined to make a difference by finding the solutions to the biggest challenges.
