HUMAN PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME

McLaren recognised long ago that in a sporting landscape dictated by marginal gains, human performance is as vital as technological excellence – because even the most carefully optimised machine is only as effective as the person operating it.

Advanced capabilities in data science, simulation, materials science, and human performance developed on the race track can now be harnessed to deliver extraordinary performance off it.

Nowhere was the extraordinary transfer of F1 insight into quantifiable human performance demonstrated better than at the 2012 Olympics, where McLaren Applied Technologies worked with UK Sport to prepare Britain’s athletes for elite competition. Our involvement spanned multiple disciplines and, of the 65 medals won by the British team during the 2012 Summer Games, half were claimed in sports where McLaren Applied Technologies was active.

Our proven track record of unlocking and delivering extraordinary human performance includes designing Lizzy Yarnold’s skeleton sled which she used to win gold on at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The finished sled design gave Yarnold the tools she needed to go fastest in each of her four runs and take victory in Sochi by a cumulative 0.97 seconds – that’s an even bigger margin in Skeleton that it would be in Formula 1.

In 2011 cycling legend Mark Cavendish claimed the coveted green jersey in the Tour de France riding a Specialized S-Works + McLaren Venge, a highly advanced road racing bicycle combining the technical excellence of Specialized and McLaren.
